Latigo. These are hs kids playing with their teams. Most of the public school kids are relatively average although there is an occasional very good one. The best talent is in the Catholic schools. I haven’t seen Patrick school yet and as I said I’ll see St Peter’s prep seton hall prep and Hudson cath on Thursday. I’ll see Patrick school in the playoffs. The best games are late in the summer when more complete rosters are available once kids are back from u tournaments showcases camps and aau. St. Peter’s university hasn’t done all that well with local kids although we did get dasher and wyche and did well with both. Years ago we did very well with locals but not go much in recent decades. The coaching staff is emphasizing portal transfers and jucos and frankly it is the way of the world bc if we get a good frosh he’s probably gone before junior year. So I don’t know we where the interest is either way

Latigo - I would be remiss in not pointing out that Holloway did bring in kids from Patrick school and Edert came from Bergen Catholic and Estrada came from st Benedict’s in Newark but for the most part even though they are local they are also a one off due to shas shu contacts and rep in the recruiting ranks

Figgy. I appreciate the insight. Sounds like it's a good setup for HS ball. I'm assuming if a kid graduated this past May, he can't play in these games? Also, are incoming freshman eligible to play? Indiana doesn't have HS team ball in the summer. Just AAU. Go Peacocks!

Graduated seniors don’t play. I’m not sure about incoming frosh. That might be a school policy decision rather than a league rule. But I’m not sure of that. Teams do come in from as far as 60 miles away and at least one school comes from Staten Island in nyc- tip of the hat to ot. Unfortunately some really good Bergen county teams have never competed in this league - eg Don Bosco or Bergen Catholic or a public like Hackensack. But public’s like linden and Newark collegiate field very representative teams- collegiate took St. Peter’s to overtime the other night. It’s also a good opportunity for some very suburban teams to get down and dirty with the inner city game. But to be clear I have found the suburban teams to be pretty tough and competitive even in the rough and tumble of summer city ball

Well as Sha said in 2022 after they kicked Kaintucky and PurWho's ass.... they are tough NY and NJ kids.
Off topic but I read that UGA QB is styling and profiling in a 275k Lamborghini thanks to NIL. Only gonna get worse folks. You give a 20 year old kid that much dough, trouble in turn 2. Go Peacocks!

Sad to say that what I hoped would be a great bball night turned into a bust. Hudson and St. Peter’s showed up with no energy and a heavier than usual roster of the b team and got beat twice each. Seton hall at least played with some precision vs Hudson but was less interested in their second game which they lost to colts neck. Give credit to the kids from colts neck highs town and Westfield who played with energy and purpose to beat their more heralded opponents. It may be that the summer is getting long and the kids are just getting tired of playing but hopefully in the playoffs the thought of playing for a title in a win or go home setting will reinvigorate the higher profile teams

Figgy, I think you hit the head nail on the head with "kids are getting tired of playing". I sure as hell know I wouldn't want to play hoops in July. Go Peacocks!

If true this is concerning. Perhaps Tanksley is still injured?

Not returning appears to mean not coming back at all. If so, this is extremely disappointing.

Diahame and Clarke doesn't surprise me. Tanksley does. I'm confused on the 11. Does that include Bakare? If so, SP has 2 to give? If not, 1 (maybe Reid). Who knows. Looking forward to the new rules when basketball has 45 scholarships. Go Peacocks!

Checked the replies to the Tweet (and then breathe a deep sigh of relief!) - Tanksley replied and said he's recovering from the injury but still enrolled and will be back soon.

We keep better secrets than the NSA. I saw a random tweet then tracked down this commitment from May that I hadn’t seen anywhere on social media. Semaj Bethea PG Camden.

Thanks, youngalum. The cone of silence at SPU never fails to astound.
