My interest is "piqued", Cindy. I'm sure, and soon words will become actions.

Cindy, as usual, is not only accurate but ahead of the curve. My information is that we have recently signed two JC transfers. Did not, and would not inquire as to the names of these players. Thus we all should be awaiting an announcement from Athletics. My understanding is that a general announcement of all NLI signees (every sport) should be made relatively soon, Guess that we all will have to wait for that announcement for specifics.

Just wondering..........What is the rationale for our self imposed restriction, lumping in men's hoops signings with volleyball and tennis announcements? Doesn't PE realize there are at least eight to ten of us eagerly awaiting news about our two new Peacocks? :>) Seriously, for a bit, at least the Staff is rolling the dice and reaching for short term success. If one or two of these guys can play, the next two seasons should be quite interesting.

Actually JD and staff are trying to build a Program. Attention is not only being placed on filling short term needs but they are, already, on the road also evaluating 2012 graduates. As someone posted, no staff works harder. Recruiting, no matter how knowledgeable coaches are, is always a bit of a crap shoot. In basketball a 50% batting average isn't bad...for any Program. It's the fans that are the best second guessers.

If one of these two new JC's becomes a solid contributor next year, I would be happy. As you say, a 50% hit rate (especially this late in the recruiting cycle) wouldn't be a bad batting average. If Fulton can contribute next season and Prescott reverts to his HS clippings (two big ifs) SPC can be dangerous and a tough out come February. More realistically, it will take time for our guys to blend together and Iona and the Stags look VERY tough next season. Should be fun to watch the club develop, now that (hopefully) we can defend and rebound a bit inside.

and even tougher when all the juniors are seniors. Looks like JD is serious about working on his resume.

I am surprised Monmouth and Towson went elsewhere (top conference assistants). AD's in question must have viewed our magical March as an outlier. A good run over the next two years should get JD over the hump...........a .500 winning percentage probably won't. Worrying about losing our an up and coming coach is life at the MAAC level..........let's enjoy this past year and hope JD can generate another run over the next two seasons. With some (hopefully functional) size, SPC can be a pretty good club by the end of next season.

From what I've been told all of the JC's pursued by Dunne are expected to be immediate contributors......otherwise what's the point in going after them?
Looks like we'll be really top heavy with Juniors next year, but I see no other recourse if we want to be competitive.

We missed out on several 2011 bigs that were high on our list. Thus I believe the strategy is to bring it some immediate help (JC's), and go hard for the fall signing on some 2012"s. I know we have brought in at least a half dozen decent names for this class, most of them guards however. The one JC that has been rumored the most brings good board help and defense but may be somewhat limited offensively. Then again, this appears the norm for most big men coming into the MAAC next year.

I believe your post is right on point Johngalt. I too believe we missed out on some high level people on our list and therefore went on to pursue the quick fix option of JUCO. Hopefully the JUCO option yields another Jeron Belin type talent. Agree the JUCO option gives us a shot to stay in the top half of the league next year and avoid the PIG. The JUCO option means we need to be very aggressive with 2012 recruiting especially early as we will be replacing these bigs who will be seniors in 2012- 2013. Looks like we will have at least 3 to give in 2012 and 7 in 2013 assuming we don't lose any of the existing returnees.

Speaking of JUCO, what odds could you have gotten on March 1st (much less January 15th) of this year Jeron Belin would be the MAAC TOURNEY MVP??? 2011 was the most improbable MAAC Title ever for SPC; knocked off two clearly superior regular season clubs while comfortably ahead for almost 80 minutes, spanning both games. Jeron personnified that turnaround. Played under control; hit big "3's", rebounded very well. Have to give JD his due for plucking Jeron from a Western NY State JUCO. Lightning in a bottle again? Let's hope so!

JUCOs are always a big risk, especially at the mid major level-there's a reason that these players end up at a JUCO-grades, off court issues, talent level, etc. Even as great as Belin's run was at the MAAC Tourney, his first year and a half were very mediocre. Luckily we caught "lighting in a bottle" and hopefully we can do it again as spcfan mentions.
Also, give Marlon Guild a great amount of credit for SPC's recruiting efforts- I think it was him that actually plucked Jeron from JUCO and probably was a major factor in locating our recent signings.

Marlin Guild was responsible for the Connecticut connection, both Belin and Samuels were the results of his work.
I agree with the risk assessment. JUCO's are a fall back position meaning we did not succeed at attracting respectable high school talented big men. Even at the point position, Lamin is undersized at a reported 5'9". I know the coaches worked it hard but the results are disappointing, at least on paper. Attracting talent tothe SPC non-campus is a very difficult job. Having better than average coaching from Dunne helps compensate for the average talent. We can only hope that the upgrade in facilities makes a recruiting difference down the road.

Agree JUCO's are risky, but, with only Conley functional up front, this season would have been a washout without a ready-to-contribute player or two up front. Since there has not been an impact MAAC front line frosh since Lionel Simmons, JD almost HAD to go JUCO this time around....and hope for the best......otherwise the talents of the balance of the junior class would very likely have been for naught. Now.........with three to give next year, at least two should be frosh......and with seven on the horizon next year.....we'll be able to form a final conclusion about the Staff's ability to leverage the MAAC Title and recruit to SPC. I am hoping one of the JUCO's is a "steal" that dropped to SPC, but, realistically, if our two mysterious newbies are at least functional up front, SPC should be competitive early and pretty good by February.
