Gaels a seven point favorite on SPU home court....making Iona 11 points better on a neutral court. Seems like a high line to me. SPU is home, which should give our defenders some leeway. Iona is not too big for us. Armand and Momo will be a handful for Ffrench and Raymond, but if those two don't penetrate at will and dish, Conley and Tucker should be able to operate inside. I think the Peacocks keep this one very close and are capable of a "W" if Iona is not white hot from outside. We'll see.

edit: "if those two don't penetrate at will and dish, our guys should be able to defend well down low. Conley and Tucker should be able to operate inside offensively."

If we can beat Rutgers on their court, we can certainly beat Iona on our court. Then again, if we can be beaten by Binghamton and FDU we can lose to just about anyone. Hope the team that beat Rutgers shows up.

Defense pretty good; SPU shooting 23 percent and down 9. SPU hasn't scores in eight minutes!

Gaels with a box and one all half. Desi and Prescott taken out of the offense; balance of our roster clanging iron all half. Team shooting 25 percent. Missing many, many, many open looks as Iona "D" is poor. SPU defense intense and holding Iona to 34 percent shooting for the half. Momo and Armond ( who is much improved) are being defended well. I thought we could win shooting 42 percent......heck, 35 percent would have SPU right there. Drill down through all of our analysis......we just don't have enough playersmwhoncan make easy shots. Need Conley, Burke, Raymond and Ffrench to finish......getting easy shots; can't score.

Hot second half shooting. 40 percent for the game, after only 25 percent at the half. Good "D", Iona came out asleep.
Ffrench jump stop 8 footer with 4 seconds left wins it. Conley with 17 and 9.
When making shots, SPU can hang with most MAAC clubs.

Huge psychological win for us. Ffrench was All MAAC tonight. Good to see Conley back on his game. Burke appears to be feeling much better....gave us nice nice minutes and much needed help on the boards. Washington had a nice game....wish he could have gotten more touches. Nice defensive shutdown on Mo Mo. We won this one on true grit and good coaching. Way too many turnovers tonight. Can you imagine how good we could be if we learned to finish underneath? Maybe this win will silence some of those MAAC posters who had us penciled in for last place.

This was the game that I wanted more than other this season after Cluess proved totally without class in that game at Iona last year , and Iona's announcers showed themselves not only classless but basketball stupid in coverage of game . Iona fans' pregame debate was about whether they would win by ten or twenty as they trounced us on the way to Rutgers and Georgia . The game was also particularly sweet because our guys beat Iona and the three refs .
Blaise had a brilliant game taking Iona's guards to school . He earned that last second winner which was beautiful to watch : senior point guards have seen it all over their careers but it is not automatic by any means as Blaise has shown he is really aware of what he can and can't do on the court . But tonight he did it all . It was just great to watch him make that last clutch play and shot after all those minutes , all that defense and his previous clutch plays and shots . He could not have done it without absolutely clutch shots and plays from Desi to keep us in the game and some solid and tough basketball from Darius in the last ten minutes . Burke had a very good good game battling on both ends . Patterson also had moments at the end that frosh don't often have . Elias did some good things also - he is going to have a very good Peacck career , and it is fun to watch him rooting his teammates on from the bench .
Thanks to all the players for giving an old fan another great Peacock performance for his memory bank .

Conley's play for us tonight was key and what we lacked in most of our losses this year. It's clear that we have a new "big three" with Conley, Washington, and Ffrench leading the way and to play off jajk's opening statement about their announcers last year, Bridgeport didn't feel like that long ago tonight.
The question to me still is can someone step up at the "3" spot for us- Raymond has shown signs but despite making a few perimeter shots in the first few games, he's still very limited outside 15 feet. Prescott hasn't improved coming off a disappointing year and has even less of an impact now that he doesn't have free reign to shoot. I think we all seem to be pleased with the play of Patterson, but I think it will be a year until he becomes a "major" contributor, especially on the offensive end. Remember that two years ago we were an "upper mid-pack" team until Belin stepped up as a consistent 4th scoring option. Even after tonight, I still think we are 5th-8th in the MAAC unless we get that consistent 4th scoring threat.

Any doubt right now Blaise is our MVP...most valuable Peacock.Second in scoring and rebounding ,his8 assists tonight give him a team leading 50 for the season against only 23 turnovers. Add solid D on Momo tonight...held by various Peacocks to only 11. Darius after a rough start, lit it up at crunch time on the inside. Desi's 3 big threes at the start of the second stanza put us back in the game. Desi also had four steals. Chris Burke was again active,Oldtimer, with 5 boards and a huge basket late in the game. SPU also benefited from very good interior defense in the second half...10 blocked shots. i wish the Peacocks would play with this kind of intensity when they faced the FDUs and Binghamtons. Note the success the Peacocks enjoyed when coming out of Dunne timeouts. Enjoy the moment Peacock fans...this season figures to be a roller coaster.

Washington is proving he's more than just a good shooter. He's been playing excellent defense and rebounding really well for a guard....great addition.
