Conley only saw a few minutes in the second half after struggling a bit in the first half? Was he hurt, ineffective, or combination of both?

D was having major problems with double teams every time he touched the ball. 0 for 4 from the floor, still can't elevate to rebound, did not appear to be injured, yet I trust his recovery is incomplete. We know he'll have better nights.

BU ran two players at Darius when he touched the ball. It appeared to fluster Darius, who turned it over three times within a few minutes. Injury may he the reason, but results so far are Darius are disappointing........not really boarding well and defending poorly, IMO...getting beat pretty regularly off the dribble.....not at Desports rate, but not what SPU needs. Rutgers and Cornell wins.....decisive runs were made with DC on the pine.
I'm hoping it's the injury, rather than Darius game plateauing short of expectations. Iona is small pre-Laury and Etherly is out for Loyola, so we'll need DC to be a factor this coming week.

Game was our season in a nutshell. As bad as a D1 can be in the first half 1fg in first 17 mins and a real scrappy coordinated effort in second. Here's the thing about Darius.. He's a senior and he still aks the same mistakes especially vs double team over and over again. Just can/t have it sorry. Love the kid, a real trooper but if you don't learn and grow you find more pine time. I'd play Tucker and Desport until he understands that you step through, elevate or see the double coming and pass in the direction of the double. You don't simply wait to be trapped. Bad teams find ways to lose and after poor fts vs FDU we straighten that out only to stink it up for a half. Team seems disjointed now with erratic roles. Total laCK OF CONFIDENCE ON OFFENSE IN FIRST HALF. No one wanted to shoot at a point. I still think we have better pieces than last year, but are we a better team? Jury is out.

Went out after the game, just got in. Nothing much to add to the above posts but want to talk about my second favorite player, Chris Burke. Got in the game tonight and played 24 min..looks healthy again.
Chris really frustrates me because he has the most athletic ability and nose for the ball on the team. Yet he doesn't score. In our comeback he got several key rebounds, a block and a steal. Looks almost afraid to take a shot. Really rooting for him to breakout but have no idea if he will. Just love to watch the rest of his game. Oh well!

DJ Errving had great game against Rutgers............can't remember what Watson did. Let's hope we can do better in MAAC games.

Does Conley or Ffrench get the nod at number one? ;D
While none of us know Conley's exact injury, it seems like it's one of those "he won't injure it more if he can play through the pain" type of injuries. Unfortunately (as cindy pointed out a few games back) it also seems like one of those injuries that will just keep dragging on throughout the year. Darius has been a warrior for us for the his 4 years in JC, but without know the full details of the injury, I have to somewhat question the decision to let him play in the games since he went down at Cornell. He plays in 4 games that were meaningless in the big picture, the team goes 0-4 anyway, he was completely ineffective in two of the games, and in the Seton Hall game where he was effective, he visibly injured the ankle again. Now we come into the first two MAAC games against two very good teams, but two teams that, as loyal says above, are thin in the frontcourt at the moment. This would be a spot where a healthy Conley should be able to show why he is an All-MAAC type player. Hopefully a banged-up Conley can have an impact as well.

peacockblue...you got me! (just kidding!). Make Darius #1, Blaise #2, Burke#3. However, both Darius and Blaise have already proven their worth, Chris Burke hasn't I also have a personal bias in that I know most of these kids. Almost all are super nice but Darius, Blaise and Chris are especially so. By the way my all time favorite was Harry Laurie with Nick Leon second. Now there's the start of an argument!
Regarding Darius' injuy ( and reinjury ) I'm not so sure that I'd blame his overall play just on the injury, as we all seem to be doing. We hope that when/if totally healed our team will be that much improved. My take is that Darius has always been a streaky offensive player. The reason? He's really a power forward who, because of team circumstances, is forced to play center. At center, as I know you'll agree, Darius is undersized, without much help and therefore always double or triple teamed down low. Pretty impossible situation Thus Darius is forced to rely more on his 12' jumper. Against Seton Hall he put on a great, great performance hitting, I think, his first six jump shots . Problem is that he can't play to that level every night.
Bottom line, as outstanding potential ALL-MAAC players perhaps we fans expect too much out of Desi and Darius night in and night out. We almost need them to have super games. I'm confident Darius will return to form. I agree with your assessment on Iona and we do need a healtier Darius
Regarding the question of our offense. We have a bunch of athletes who run the floor very well. Scored, I believe 47 points in the second half against Boston U. Problem is a team can't run unless they rebound OR create turnovers. Doubtful about the former but would like to see more of that 3/4 court trapping defense that JD unleashed in the 2nd half.
All of this, just my opinion.

OT, if Burke could hit a 15 footer, much less a "3", he would be so valuable.....but his inability to shoot consistently from outside severly limits his contribution. We just have to hope it's a confidence thing, and one day soon the light goes on. If not, he'll continue to be a spot player that tries very hard, but is too small to operate effectively near the basket. If CB could only shoot, he'd really help our club at the 3 spot.

I'll be away for the Iona game. Looking forward to reading comments from those who were there or watched.

Didn't see the BU loss only listened to most of the first half which was an abomination even on internet radio. As to my favorite all time Peacock mine was Marvin Andrews no greater warrior in my opinion ever wore the blue and white. His defensive job on Terry DeHere his senior year (9) points against a future pro and all american as well as his defense against La Salle and Iona in the 95 MAAC tourney are probably my fondest memory in my 45 years of watching Peacock basketball.

Nice choice spcfan. I am almost right there with you. I have Harry Laurie number one and Marvin Andrews as my number two. Pound for pound, Andrews is the toughest Peacock I ever saw and we had some tough kids like Jimmy Brandon, Phil Jamison, and Moe Segar.
