We had 10 offensive rebounds to their 3 ( edit: another source had our ad at 10-6 ) , we doubled them in assists 10-5 , we tripled them in steals 12-4 , we we had less TOs and more blocks , we outscored them by 12 from the field . We LOST on our homecourt
I am going to leave others to comment about the reffing since I wasn't at the game but the sad fact is that if we shot 63% from the foul line , we win this game .

OK jajk, I'll talk about the refs. Usually at any game I'm very stoic. Rarely get emotional and never yell at the refs. Today I did. For most of the game they were horrible both ways but in crunch time they hurt us big time. There were four calls (one no call ) that film will show should have gone our way but went to Loyola. Just some examples: #1 As we were missing our foul shots in a one possession game, Chris Burke went STRAIGHT UP to tip and steal a rebound after an SP miss at the line. The Loyola player clearly backed into him and the foul was called on Chris??? #2 Their number 24 who, while clearly the best player on the floor, had been elbowing and pushing all day was involved in a possible turnover going to SP. In trying to get to the ball #24 knocked one of our players to the ground and I believe fell also...no foul called. Clearly there was a call to be made, none was. #3 In a scramble for a loose ball at about the minute mark a Loyola player, all alone fell on the ball his feet still moving. That's an automatic walking violation in any league. A second or so later he called for and was given a timeout. Problem is that the walk occured first and the timeout call was a late whistle.
But enough of that. If we made our foul shots, none of this would have mattered. Interesting that the rules/evaluator was at the table evaluating these refs. Wonder since the majority of calls went against us, if the refs were trying to bend over backwards to show impartiality to the visiting team. If so, they over did it big time!
By the way,Yvon played a great game. Blaise is still playing great but each game sees opponents clogging up the middle to take away his penetration.
PS figgypres. Sorry Ididn't get a chance to talk with you. Got tied up with Gene O'Connell , Pete Norton ('62), Harry Laurie and the previous Golf Coach. Have a great Holiday

I'll comment on the officiating. It was atrocious. Amazes me how we rarely get the benefit of any home cooking by the officials.
Basically Loyola pushed and bulled their way inside and we were called for constant fouls as we tried to defend. These guys never heard of a charge. Every pile up was a blocking foul. They only hit one three as i recall all their points were free throws or in the paint. I think 21 of their 54 were from the line.
We on the other hand couldn't make anything from outside,no inside scoring other than Yvon who was outstanding all around today but again just like FDU lead most of the way blow it down the stretch with abysmal free throw shooting three straight sequences of two shot fouls with no points when we led 44-36 plus a missed front end of a one and one turned an 8 point lead into a deficit we never recovered from.
This team has very little margin for error. We need to make our shots hit free throws play good D and block out underneath to win. When we shoot poorly or have an abysmal free throw shooting line we lose.
As one of our long time supporters sitting next to me put it the problem this year is no consistency. The athleticism is there and they played very hard. Really wish we had one other shooter to complement Desi. They were all over him all afternoon from the perimeter and when he or Blaise tried to drive their big guys clogged the middle cutting it off.

Cindy- Promised your better half I'd post about today's game. First if we go 13 for 17 on fts instead of 6-17 we win. But that having been said, there were at least 10 more fts coming to us as Blaise, Desi and Yvon got abused going to hoop without any calls. Zebras were about as bad as any I've seen. Loyola brought the right group with them is all i'll say. Give Loyola credit for denying Desi all over, but Averkamp was given carte blanche on moving screens and 3 secs all day. Situation where Desi drives and gets creamed and then Loyola fopuls in scramble for ball resultong in SPU fopul on second scrum was obscene. Indictments were in order for what Blaise endured on way to hoop. But all that aside we win if ft line is only average. Team is 5-6 should be 9-2 or 8-3. Put it behind us and have a merry christmas

That sequence was crucial figgy. That and the tipped rebound by Burke that he got called for a foul on. What a complete joke.I'm still pissed enough about it to post on it today.
Also as you stated they hadn't heard of the 3 second rule when it came to Loyola bigs posting our guys up in the paint.
I too agree this team should be minimum 7-4, if we win this and FDU both blown by under 33% free throw shooting.
Let's move on and concentrate on the rest of the schedule.
Merry Christmas to all of the faithful on the board

It's time to bring in an expert foul shooting coach....I'll pick up his salary.

Nice game by Trevis Wyche in 96-60 win over Bayonne....triple-double, 22 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists....not bad.
