Sort of. A guard and not for '11. Sources report that Desi Washington, a 6'2" guard transfer from Delaware State will be joining the Peacocks and presumably available for the '12/'13 season. Out of Harrisburg, Pa., Washington averaged a little better than 13 points, 37% from 3 and a very respectable 80% from the foul line, albeit, out of the MEAC Conference. A good shooter, handles well, and likes to attack the basket.
With this said, one has to conclude that we have come up short in landing another big. Looks like JD is looking ahead and is presumably not optimistic that he can land any of the talented h.s. guards available for '12. We are now what is given and will have to go into battle with what is here. Only last hope is that a late big will still appear and we can enable the waters so that a final ship can open up.
Of course, all this may be a bit premature as I have not seen any official announcement from the Washington camp.

Why wouldn't he be eligible for the first semester of the 12-13 season? I would assume he will enroll for this fall if he indeed does transfer.
Also, don't give up hope for a big for this fall. I heard that the staff still has some players on its radar- the quality of these players is what will be the big question of course.

You are correct. Should read; start of '12/'13 season. Made the change above.
Not optimistic on a big for this fall. Picking up Washington leaves little, if any, room to maneuver and may suggest a lack of progress.

Washington is the player i had alluded to in earlier posts. Look at his high school credentials. Very good player, outstanding shooter should be a nice player for us when he's eligible. Don't be fooled by Del State. Double figure scorer as a frosh in D1. If he is coming i'm very pleased. Also getting Desi doesn't preclude bringing in a big for this year.Staff still intends to bring one more in.As you pointed out in earlier posts John they may have another way to add one.

Still have not closed the door on a big as it is likely that a ship can be made available. Just appears, with the addition of Washington, that we are looking more towards the next, rather than the current year. Maybe just a sense, as a talent could still drop our way, but the options are drawing narrow as we move closer to the upcoming season.

Not sure our options are any more narrow than before. The new fly was Fall becoming qualified. If you dig deep, you will find more mentioned of a visit with SPC than any other school. Remember this was over and above the big stud with a year eligibility. So there was always the intent to pursue a big while at the same time they were courting Washington. Also Washington will have three years of eligibility and with some research you will find he was a stud from the Harrisburg area. Also I think the announcement you should be waiting for will be from DE St.
I think the way SPCFan is alluding too just occurred for Iona with a JUCO transfer.

While options still are open, maybe choices have narrowed. Rumor I heard was that Fall would announce for us on Friday. Now I am told he is considering other choices, including the possibility of going Prep. Thus, the "big stud" remains in the picture.
Reference to MEAC Conference was not intended as a knock on Washington, just cautioning that his Freshmen numbers may be a bit skewed. One positive, if you look over the stats, is that some of his best numbers were gained against the better teams. He is seen as an excellent outside shooter, no doubt.

On paper, DW appears to be the perfect complement to Fulton, over the long term. Averaging 13 ppg. as a D 1 frosh is not too shabby. Based on very good HS write ups and frosh stats, appears to be a solid pickup for SPC. (Disclaimer)...having not seen Fall and not knowing who the "one year big" is......I'd prefer Fall, as his potential impact over the next four years would eclipse what one player can bring during a year where Iona and Fairfield look pretty tough. Getting interesting.......

Rumor I heard was that Fall would announce for us on Friday. How reliable. He let be known awhile ago he was going to Monmouth Thursday for an unofficial. Had not visited us as yet and was arranging a visit. Most of the info on Fall indicated he would take a while to choose. Is it possible the rumor of any announcement would be his visit. By the way the "big stud" is no bigger than Fall and gets the name by virtue of the schools he attended.

A transfer and a big man? Aren"t all the scholarships supposedly taken except for one?
If all this is true, someone has to be falling out of the bottom. Something is not adding up. My suspicion is that even though Tucker has qualified academically, the staff is not going that route unless they don't sign another big. I have not seen or heard anything about Tucker securing a scholarship except for was is posted on this board.

Seems like it would be a "dirty" move by the coaching staff if Tucker was recruited, payed his own way for a year, qualified, and then told that he wasn't getting offered a scholarship. This is possible but seems unlikely to me.
I take this to mean that Ferguson may not/has not qualified(?)

Transfers as well as JUCOs can do exactly like Tucker has done. A little review of recent Iona commits will show that. I doubt there are any bad moves being made and nothing is cast in concrete until the Fall/Stud card is played out and school starts in September.

I also heard the same rumor that Fall is coming in for a visit and will commit to the Peacocks next week. Hopefully it won't "Fall through". With everything that has happened so far, we are due some good luck.

Seems, like most of the kids, he is hearing from lots of "advisors". Maybe JD will create some urgency if he has not already done so, as in...let first come, first served be the rule. Tucker is in and Ferguson has presumably begun or signed up for classes so I don't see any subtraction here. Not to dampen one's spirit, but bear in mind that Fall has virtually no offensive game. He may have the defensive skill, but showing this at the D-1 level will require much more talent and effort than was necessary at the high school level. Still lots of time 'til September.

While nothing solid on Washington, it appears Dunne looking to solidify the guard position from 2012 thru 2014. Following reported by Alex Kline
"2012 guard Dawan Lighty of Robinson School (NJ) spoke with St. Peters today. The Peacocks are expressing a lot of interest."
