Assuming reports of his interest and candidacy for the two jobs were accurate, Coach Dunne did not land the Monmouth or Fairfield jobs. Fairfield....who knows? A gentleman's agreement not to poach within the MAAC? Sydney a better candidate? Maybe. Monmouth...King Rice has no reported Northeast recruiting ties and has never been a D 1 head coach. Rice over Dunne puzzles me. Am wondering if AD's may be viewing MAAC Tourney as the outlier, or maybe the "defense first, we'll win in the 50's" style may be unappealing.....moreso than I imagined? In any event, I think the Princeton competition will be fierce, but Coach Dunne has the right image, right values, solid experience, playing style would not be an impediment and his family would not have to move. I would imagine our coach will apply there ASAP. Agree Princeton is the perfect fit for JD?

I agree Loyal. I view Princeton as a much better fit for John all around than the other jobs you mentioned. We'll se how it plays out. The low scoring defensive style fits Princeton well as you say. I think it looks more likely than not that he will stay at SPC now but we'll see how it plays out.

B/T/W per the Fairfield board Cooleys last deal at Fairfield had bumped his salary to 500k in total package. Highest I've seen for a MAAC school other than Siena for Fran at Siena who was supposedly at 500 as well. Fairfield posters had speculated Johnson was being paid 200k at Princeton. They felt he would not look at Fairfield as an up for 300k Cooley's salary before his last extension at end of last year. They were afraid Shaka would bolt to VCU and Johnson would get involved there. As they correctly pointed out MAAC is a one bid league CAA got three bids this year and has regularly been getting at least two lately.Supposedly Shaka 's new deal brings him up from 350k or so now to 1.2 million over the next three years.

Princeton typically promotes within the "family".

I would figure Mike Brennan would be a likely choice

The winner for the "How not to get noticed award" has to go to Fairfield and their A.D. Gene Doris for announcing the hiring of Sydney Johnson today. Good luck getting attention when the tourney finals are tonight and your home state standard bearer, UCONN is one of the teams. Adding even further to the pursuit for anonymity, is the Huskie win.
I'm sure everyone will be tuning in to Johnson's formal introduction which, in keeping with this masterful timing, is set for tomorrow.
Still a good name hire for Fairfield. Let a lot of coins loose on this one.
