I think you guys are both correct. This would would have been a disappointing season had we not run the table in the tournament. Also, I think Dunne is at his apex, at least in the short term. It will take a miracle to beat either Iona or Fairfield next season. That will translate into one top finish in six years under Dunne. Not exactly a stellar resume if you are looking to make a move. In order to be an attractive candidate, Dunne needs to win consistently.
The fact that Dunne is looking tells us a few things. He knows next season will not be very good or he is really underpaid if Monmouth is something he really wanted, or both.
No coach steps steps down in league status unless they see no future in their current situation. Since Dunne has a good relationship with Elliot, you know that his A.D. relationship is not the issue. I think it says a lot about the administration's lack of investment in the program. My take is that Dunne sees nothing but a tough future at SPC because he doesn't have the resources to compete with other MAAC schools on a level playing field. It just stacks the odds against him and he figures it will be easier/better someplace else. Sad.

dreamweaver, disagree with some of your earlier conclusions...but reasonable people can disagree. However, your final paragraph is right on target. Just to add to your analysis, remember that PE interviewed at Seton Hall and, according to reports, was a finalist.
Many things positive are happening at SPC. Think the administration is willing to make additional investments in our Athletic Programs. My question is will it be enough given the gap between us and the other MAAC schools? Pat Elliott, John Dunne and our other coaches are performing miracles with the resources at hand...three MAAC Championships to date.
Very hard to read the tea leaves on the above. Some positive things are happening but will it be enough? That is why competent people look elsewhere.

Lets remember that SPC will always be a stepping stone job. Fans should hope we regularly lose our coach because that would indicate regular winning (see history of Iona and Manhattan). Only issue is whether or not we lose this coach now. With most local jobs seemingly getting closed without him, chance he stays improve. But the coaching carousel is still moving eg who gets Dayton and how does that spin jobs. I dont know if coach even got in touch with Towson, but that is still a concern. No one knows internal discussions at schools. For instance even at Monmouth- I suspect that MU might be waiting on the next conference revamp which I believe will involve Big east realignment. Given success of soccer. baseball and several womens programs and football progam at Monmouth I could see them looking to leave NEC to join a higher profile conference formed from Big east, A 10 and MAAC programs. Is this true? Who knows, but it is possible that such thinking was part of their coaching search and that is something no one who's not in the room would know. I don't think that JD looking is any indication of the future at SPC. He has to have enough confidence in his own ability to succeed or he would have given it up 3 seasons ago. I do think he is looking for better resources to work with and better compensation. How different does that make him from nearly every working person in America? Hope he stays, worry about the short term effect on players if he leaves too late to recover in recruiting. Would like to have a deeper roster when he does finally leave which of course presumes continued success at SPC
