No visible sentiment on athletics. Only served two years at AIC. Strong advocate for DEI. Maybe he can bring some talented guys to our women’s team.

If you dig deep you will see smaller references to athletics. He was in an alumni versus team as a player in a soccer game. Also showed Pride to a volleyball team within a national tournament.

AIC competes in the NE-10, which historically has been a solid D2 conference. Hopefully, he was supportive of athletics during his tenure.

Anyone else find it concerning he ended up staying less than two years?
“I am hoping this is my last stop. I am not brushing up my resume for my next job,” Benitez said. “I believe I have been called to do this work. If AIC will have me, I’ll stay.”

Thanks for the source work peacock. Lots to unpack there. On the plus side he had experience with a smaller Jesuit school in Rockhurst as well as a somewhat diverse student body which spu clearly has. He has experience in trying to run a school in a hard scrapple urban environment ( I’ve been to Springfield and I’m sure others have as well as the Maac had a brief foray there a while back). I hope his enthusiasm for find raising and infrastructure improvement is real. Negatively I’m not real comfortable at this point with all the “agreements” he made and the international gaze he seems to have. The intercollegiate agreements can work well for enrollment but what they do for the bottom line is uncertain. I worry that the njcu need for partners might attract him perhaps to our detriment. And the international stuff just defies our mission. As to athletics I just think it’s a wait and see. Unless we appointed a meathead like Tommy tuberville the story of a new president would not emphasize athletics in any way. So just need watchful waiting on that

The real question that needs to be answered. How is he at raising money?

Like many academians today, his background doesn’t seem to suggest an appreciation for the bottom line. Beware of another globalist.

Who says consensus isn’t possible. I find myself agreeing with both peacock and Galt at the same time!!! As to fund raising his background suggests he is good at pulling teeth
