Yup SEC G League. You could see it coming as soon as Pandora's box opened.
I would still sign a frosh if he can be an immediate impact from day 1 and hope to get two good years ala Corey out of them. Other than that it's Juco's, Grad Transfers, and poaching some D2/3 talent like happens to us. Year to year league and try to get to the tourney...until they kick out the mids anyway.

Yep. Every game is an audition for NIL and advancement. Mid Majors nothing more than farm teams. What's gonna be interesting is say an Arkansas etc, "recruits" a Washington. The team will have to purge a scholarship player to make room. Some move up... some move down. Football will be the foreshadowing of the way it will work. Watch it... and you will see how hoops will work.

While you guys are probably right about players transferring out, I still own a pair of rose colored glasses.
It is possible, that some very good players will stay based on their relationship with the Coach, in this case Coach Bash. Our two most talented players, Washington and Zeigler, came in the old fashion way out of high school. Each of those players picked Coach Bash over better funded, higher profile, schools. These players knew what they were getting when they picked SPU.
While players who don’t get the minutes they feel they deserve will consider transferring out, others can look at the development of Reid and Washington and think that may be possible for them. As far as getting into the tournament and advancing, SPU, FDU, UMBC, and others have demonstrated that going to Rutgers, Georgetown, Maryland, or Ohio State is no guarantee of getting into the tournament or of even getting big minutes (Edert at Bryant or the H Drame at Duquesne).
I will probably be proven wrong but I am not ready to throw my rose colored glasses away. Somehow, I think relationships still matter.

DW all good points. I do believe all the things you mention still matter and I think there’s a good chance AZ is still here next year. Problem is when $ gets involved. Very difficult to overcome when a player can get an offer to transfer without penalty and a check to go with it.
Worries for the off-season though. Right now I’m just going to try to enjoy this team. As others have mentioned if we are healthy we have as good a shot as anyone in AC.

DW. Your lips to gods ears. What really hurts - and I think this echoes some of Cindy’s sentiments- is that the rock ribbed hard core fans of college ball folks like the posters here who are invested in their teams for love of the game and the laundry get co-opted by monied wannabe ego freaks who want to tell you about who they “own”. Sad

Unless transfer/NIL rules materially change, the MAAC slate will be wiped clean every year. A majority of good players will move up; rosters of any top 3 team likely to see significant plucking. Impossible to pick an off season favorite cause the returning players who haven’t been plucked will just not be that good.
Sad to lose JuJu and Rupert.. Purps lost Noah; Gaels Clayton and Jenkins and NJJ. Saints Pickett. Etc., etc.
Under the current setup, a MAAC reams chance to win an NCAA game is a pipe dream.
Personally, I follow the MAAC closely and am enthused about contending to win in AC. Love the game.
That said, more than ever, as Seinfeld said, we “root for laundry”.

Agree with your recruiting philosophy in theory but we’ve had a problem under the last two coaching staffs on landing impact transfers. This year’s group is entirely dependent on Washington being on the court. Maybe Tanksley changes that narrative but unfortunately we don’t know. Dasher had a nice season last year but was a minor role player his first season with us. Up to this point in the “portal era” we’ve done a much better job of getting under the radar freshmen.

That said, more than ever, as Seinfeld said, we “root for laundry”. The chances of MAAC teams winning a NCAA game has been a pipe dream most years before the portal and NIL. I’ve always looked at the MAAC tournament as the goal. We won in the tournament two years ago, Iona led the eventual national champion at halftime and FDU won a game last year. These are all outliers but show it’s still possible. The biggest impact for me has been the overall quality of play in the regular season. I’ve found the last two years brutal to watch with watered down play and having to learn entirely new rosters for every team. I’ve accepted the reality that our Elite 8 team was the last year that we’ll have the chance to root for a “core” of consistent players we got to know over the years. I’ll always watching enjoy the MAAC tournament since everything is on the line but the regular season has become pointless to me.

Repole just tossed seven figure NIL lifeline to Slick Rick. It’s hard for most to compete with that. It also explains Slick Rick’s “ sincere” apology for his outburst.

Who knows, but I believe a MAAC team won’t win an NCAA game going forward is because under current rules, KC would have been plucked prior to 2022 NCAA run, Clayton and NJJ PILFERED FROM Iona, etc. 2022 and 2023 MAAC NCAA good showings would not have been possible. Anyway, it’s an “how many angels are on the head of a pin”? (Third grade OLV nun musing) issue…
