Willdurant - I understand your thinking and as a fan of a mid major I agree that the game needs to find a solution to be saved from itself. However, those in charge of the decision making don't share our same sentiment. The NCAA is being run by the Power 5 conferences with them getting more and more control over decision making each year. Do you realistically think they would agree to a system where they have to give up money to pay smaller D1's and D2's for the players they are poaching from them in the portal? They're already trying to eliminate as many mid majors in the NCAA tournament as they can with the switch to NET rankings. Also the elimination of an automatic bid to the NIT for regular season champions will eliminate all but a few mid majors from that tournament as well. With every court case about the portal and NIL, we get closer to the point where there will about 100 schools that are basically a professional minor league system and schools like the MAAC will have difficult decisions to figure out what's next for them.
