SP hosts Siena at RBR Friday night. SP -9.5 and 124.5. SP has lost 4 in a row including 3 at home. I'm assuming Siena will have Eley and Durogordon at full strength. I also assume, Reid and Hogue not at full strength. I doubt Washington plays. Looks like another rock fight. First to 50 wins. Go Peacocks!

I’d be disappointed if Washington doesn’t play. He looked close last week. Participated in warmups, was reverse dunking in the layup line, had his warmups off like he was ready to go. I guess we will find out tomorrow.

Youngalum, I hope you're right. The first game, no Durugordan for Siena. Reid had 21 but healthy. Tied at 33 at half and SP held them to 19 2nd half. May be the same thing. Go Peacocks!

Let’s hope that we are at full strength this Friday. A loss against Siena would be devastating at this point in the season.

Observations first half. Needless to say Washington is the real deal. 2, amazing how guys play with more confidence when he is playing. 3, very low fouls. 4, how many point blank shots can we miss? 5, I didn't know Eley was from Indiana. 6, my man Darryo Dimes is back doing games. And 7, and the most important, I would love to know from Washington who worked with him over the summer. He has so much confidence and can flat out shoot. I know he must have worked his ass off but I wonder who was the guy that worked with him. My guess.... Kee Kee.
Boat racing time 2nd half. Peacocks by a bunch 2nd half. Go Peacocks!

A very needed w. Washington falls out of bed and gets 29. Houge was a major force on the boards and Randolph made enough shots. Still don’t love our guard play except for zeigler who is very athletic and physical. Can get his own shot. Both Reid and Clarke dribble themselves into trouble too often but opponents bigs feel free to help bc of total disregard for our bigs which is why houge is so important. I’m giving sow one of those squeeze balls for Christmas so he can strengthen his hands hopefully while hitting the weights. He’s just too weak to handle the 5. He’s really a small forward playing a power spot.

Definitely needed that win. No doubt we are a different team with Washington in the lineup. Hogue and Randolph are coming around health wise and starting to show what they can do when healthy. One of these days everyone is going to click at once. Always enjoy beating the delusional fans at Siena. Iona will be a tough game but we are getting back to 100% health wise, so it should be a close game. MACC is wide open open except for one or two bottom feeders.

This was one of our best performances this season. First off, our defense was outstanding. The job done on Eley and Durugordon was terrific. Both of these players are terrific offensive talents and they were completely shut down. It could be that seeing our own shots actually going in the basket gave us a shot of adrenalin that raised our intensity level.
While Washington left no doubt about what he means to the success of this team, I was really pleased to see that Randolph and Houge could be the needed additional scorers we need to perform at our full capability. The extra floor time over the last several games that Randolph has received because of injuries has restored his mojo and what he could be for this team. And Houge had 10 rebounds in only fourteen minutes of action. Zeigler as has been pointed out by other posters, is one of the few players we have that can create and make his own shot. Plus his defense was outstanding on Tekin.
I think we will beat Iona tomorrow.

Here’s the sad thing. A school like spu goes out and the staff breaks their collective rear ends to get talents like Washington and zeigler out of hs and as soon as they show that they could lead the school to the dance and maybe cause trouble there they get scooped in the portal by wanna be supported nil collectives. Those 2 are among the more gifted hs recruits spu has gotten in recent years and I fear they’re playing their way out of town☹️

The NIL and Portal have destroyed the game We once loved. You can either accept it for what it is now or move on to other interests. There maybe an occasional exception for a player who has loyalty to a school or coach , but they will be rare. A few observations from last night: A warrior Reid is obviously still hindered by his injured taped hand. I fear his free throws at crunch time in AC in the inevitable close contests will be a problem. Last night 1-9, 2-4 Magnificent game from Washington who plays with reckless abandon and total disregard for his bodily health. I hope we can keep him healthy. I put the over/under at 3 for the number of times per game he takes a spill. Last night I actually saw a commercial on the telecast for Hackensack Meridian hospital. I hope this is the beginning of paid sponsorships. Io Pavo !

For bitter or worse the state of college basketball with the Portal and NILs is unsustainable. But while the case can be made that both issues are metastasizing together I think each problem can be addressed from a different angle.
With NILs since money talks make money talk back. Make schools reimburse the tuition (or a standard fee) for any player they poach. You know, you go to a Military Academy and drop out after Sophomore year you have to reimburse the tuition. Same deal here: In effect the schools are subsidizing the development of a players skills and should be reimbursed for successful outcomes. Now, the argument will be made that such a system would limit a players educational opportunities, but on the other hand, it would protect players from being misled by false promises. That is, a school is not going to invest money in obtaining a transfer they're iffy about.
Another approach to cutting down on transfers is for the NCAA to use some of that Tournament money to give kids money, let's say $50,000 for each year they played in the tournament upon completing their eligibility at one school and graduating The basic idea is if you have money in the bank you aren't going to be so eager to transfer, and even if you don't have money yet only your current school is going to provide you the opportunity to get it from the NCAA.
I'm just going to take Desi Washington as an example. We're just adding another variable to his decision, but if he feels this team is close to making a tournament it might provide more incentive for him to stay. Him and many other kids across the country. Stay and graduate. Of course, how much NIL money is thrown at the kids will be an influence, but not every kid is being offered top dollar.
Maybe the numbers have to be adjusted, maybe upperclassmen get bigger bonuses, but remember the NCAA pot is a billion and counting (What are we talking $25 million a year here.) An investment that would be in everybody's best interest. Could save the game from itself.
