Tough road trip for the Peacocks tomorrow. Quinnipiac -6.5 and 135.5. Quinnipiac has won 9 straight games (how Canisius beat them in December astounds me). It starts with guards. Balanc and Lewis are 5th, 6th year super seniors. Otieno and Tice are a pain too. I know I sound like a broken record, but SP to win has to have solid defense AND someone step up other than Reid (finger issue), Washington (doubtful). Which means Hogue , Bland and the bench need to step up and play a helluva game.
However, above all that, shooting will be the difference. Q in the last 5 games, 48.6% fgs. Which includes vs Iona they shot 59%. SP last 5 games, 33.8% fgs. Which brings me to this, Q shot 59% v Iona which translated into alot of layups because of Iona's press. Iona is pretty good pressing. I know SP turns teams over better than anyone in the MAAC however, my question is, with 5th, 6th year guards, is it better to play half court defense or press? Thank you .

Different speculation. Since we are so woefully poor in 3 point shooting, who you think is our best. IMO it would be Wood. Yet he sees minimal time. What is his deficiency that keeps him on the bench. Would like to hear other opinions on him.

I have noticed lately that opponents have little regard for our bigs- esp since Washington went down that their bigs feel free to roam inside wherever cutting off drives mid range and allowing greater pressure on shooters. We need Corey back or somehow get greater presence from hogue sow and Roberts. Otherwise we can t score more than lower60s and that won’t cut it

Playing Q’s game down 17 at the half. Not good.
Woods with a good half but short of that not many positives. Don’t know what’s up with Reid’s fingers but he needs to ditch the tape job. As figgy pointed out his shooting is way down since his injury.

Team is playing hard but, once we get behind, we just don’t have enough bullets in the chamber.

Seems to be a sparkplug but can get tired so is more useful in spot minutes. Does well in the fullcourt defense with two steals, but also gave up a post up to Balanc and a face cut from the point guard in the half court. I would say added weight and wind and his trajectory will continue to improve. Thoughts??

Team is playing hard but, once we get behind, we just don’t have enough bullets in the chamber. Quinnipiac announcers echoed this very message. Clarke , Ziegler , Sow , and Wood gave them needed offense but with Washington out they are hard pressed for points. Reid struggled with the foul trouble. Need positive minutes from everyone. We are losing continuity with certain lineups . The offense lineups have defensive lapses, and the defensive lineup can't score unless we are at the free thrown line.

Houge thoughts?
Rusty or compromised by injury?

With a 100% Corey and Houge, we have a reasonably legit shot in AC.
Without both, not so much.
🤞🤞🤞

Let’s not forget Reid’s hand injury The 15 footer and free throws are missing.

General observations from Thursday night at Quinipiac. Overall, I thought we played fairly well. We left points on the foul line and several at the rim. Reid is certainly hurting. His finger injury is definitely affecting his shot as well as his handle. Houge, who can shoot the ball, almost always puts the ball on the floor and is subject to getting it picked. Plus, he is a lazy defender.
Perkins and Woods, who appear to have some level of competence on offense, don’t defend well enough to get serious minutes. Bland on the other hand gets minutes because of his defense but he has lost his shot. Roberts continues to way over deliver my expectations. Clarke, who has to function as our back up point guard, has a very sloppy handle.
After seeing every team in the league, there is not one that we cannot beat if we are healthy. It would not be shocking to see us lose against any MAAC team remaining on our schedule. If Washington returns to health we have a shot to make some real noise in the MAAC tournament. We have a month to get back on track. I suspect we will.
