It will be 8 days until our next game which should be a no brainer win. Thought it would be a good time to discuss some players. Most have been negative on Bland but like it or not he might be our best three point shooter. He always has been an above average defensive player. I’ll be one of his supporters. But the real question will be three other players. One is Ziegler who everyone is high on. The question is should he get more minutes and how fast. Some look at it as right away. I favor the slow approach. But he is without a doubt our best answer for improvement over time. The other two I think need analysis are Wood and Perkins. I have liked both and would like to see more, particularly of Wood. Perkins may be too sporadic but as a soph he needs development. The question I ask is why everyone thinks either is used so lightly. Wood may be a better 3 point shooter than anyone else. I have my feelings on him but would like to know what others think.

Good questions for commentary.
I’m not sure what you see to call Bland our best 3 point shooter. He takes a lot of them…double more than the next player but is shooting at 23% which is 6th on the team behind Reid, Randolph, Sow, Ziegler, and Woods. I don’t dislike the player just think he needs to rein in the attempts and play within himself.
I like Ziegler and think his minutes have been appropriate. Some were calling for him to play more after the Duquesne game when he actually logged the most (31) on the team that night. He doesn’t start but is getting starter minutes. Probably has the highest ceiling on the team.
I haven’t seen much out of Perkins to date but agree with you on Woods. I would like to see more of him. At ~6’6 with handle I think he can be a match up problem in the MAAC. His shot has looked good In limited action. Not sure why he has fallen out of favor.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Peacock. I am a Bland supporter. I believe his shot selection is one of his problems. I think he needs to take more mid range shots and find a rhythm. That would help him make more treys, which apparently he loves to take.
The Woods and Perkin issues could be related to stuff we don’t see in practice. But if I was to guess, it would be related to the top two or three items on the Bash agenda, which appears to be defense, rebounding, and foul shooting. It’s a long season, they may still get their chance. I agree that Zeigler appears to have the most upside but I would not slight Washington. I think he is on his way to being a star.

Dreamweaver agree on Washington, could be a 1st team player. I should have said upside as opposed to ceiling regarding Ziegler.
Another note regarding the Kean game. Only thing I’m interested in is if Diahame gets any playing time. He appears to be warming up pregame. Would be nice to get him a couple minutes in a pressure free game.

Just haven’t seen enough of several newbies to have a solid opinion yet. On bland I’ll go back to something I said last year. With his width and decent ups I think he should play through contact more. Maybe post up and bully a mismatch when he gets it. That’s something like Quinn Taylor’s early offense then he later became a reliable 3 point shooter. I think diahme is still not in game shape. Looks a little thick in the waist to me. Overall I think we have good athleticism- our successful press vs umbc is indicative of that but we still struggle in the half court sets bc we are very inconsistent shooters. I love Washington’s athleticism and I think his game will get bigger. Zeigler is an all rookie team contender and another with good length and athletic ability. I’m optimistic that we will be ok

I agree with all the posts. My feelings are the newcomers are quicker and play with no fear. I have zero clue what to make of Diahame. Unfortunately he hasn't played in a year and a half.
Off topic but I see where Sean Durugordon may play Tuesday night for Siena. A Virgina, or W Virginia court issued a TRO against the NCAA transfer rules. OK, he's on his 3rd team in 3 years. I think the NCAA in March has imposed a new rule regarding transfers after 2 times and must sit for the upcoming season. I'm assuming that since Estrada is a Grad student at Alabama (his 4th team), he is allowed to play. I know Pride and others know the rule, but am I citing the rule correctly?

I did some research and yes, 2 time transfers have to sit a year. However, a judge's ruling has granted a 14 day waiver until they can figure out which way the wind blows. I have 2 solutions, 1 go back to if a student-athlete transfers, they sit for 1 year (which I prefer). OR 2, since we are being so generous with scholarships, NIL etc, just let every player transfer on an unlimited basis. In other words, let a player transfer after each game. Perhaps, at half time if they so desire. It will keep tax accountants in high demand since they will have to figure out what NIL in each state applies.
