Many good thoughts from peacock. I’m not as pessimistic as pride about appointment of ka. Yes her priority was compliance but that doesn’t rule out familiarity with fund raising. At a place like spu I doubt we will get a new president well versed in all aspects of presidency but that doesn’t mean that person can’t succeed either by learning or relying on assistants with experience in an area of responsibility. What was more distressing to me is that our undergrad enrollment is just 2100 and in ecs words we are not attracting as many “traditional” 18 year olds. That puts our enrollment as smaller than Dickinson Bayonne and Union city and north Bergen highs. We have alasts been small but I think we should be doing better. Our adult enrollment he said is outstripping our 18 year old enrollment. So much for the application /admission boom from the ee run. Our overall ranking is up which is good but we haven’t parlayed ee and better ranking into actual Fannie’s in the seats. It’s almost like we are heading for a university of phoenix like future

If SPU follows the Arcuri model, the next president will be Dr Frederick Bonato, the current executive vice president and provost. That is unless the university chooses to follow the current trend in academia of DEI .

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Katie, just not in the role of AD. Did you watch the press conference today (great lighting by the way)? Not a public speaker and not someone with a personality that I can see rallying potential new donors or sponsors. She's been excellent in her role and I think she'll be an upgrade over Paul, I just don't see her as having the experience or personality to really move the needle for the department. Does that person exist that would want the SP job? I don't know, but I don't think she's it. I've said it in the past but I think the role of any AD at a MAAC/NEC level school without football should be to directly oversee men's basketball and be responsible for fund raising/marketing. Everything else should be delegated to the senior associate AD's.

Everything else should be delegated to the senior associate AD's. What you describe is exactly like SHU. So the possibility of hiring someone like that is still possible. You must remember the commitment to the Mason’s salary has been made and I doubt they want to just piss it away. I believe we should just relax until the President is hired and then see what directions are taken.

He does not have attachment to athletics in his past. But you never know until after it happens.

Saint Peter’s is in a rising city and needs someone that will make sure that the university rises with it.

Pride & Peacock et al.... Like your ideas and thoughts on how to re- structure our Athletic Department. Just keep in mind about our skeleton staff who are not capable of even coming close to our wishes. Katie is more than capable of running the Department better than anyone I know or can think of. She was not just Compliance but was titled Senior Administrator with many, many other responsibilities. No one is more ready to assume leadership.
IMO opinion no one person, even Bryan. who had a fundraing background , was able to both run the Department and do major fundraising at the same time. Thus, I liKe the Idea of having two individuals involved mentioned by most here. How that works out I have no idea but it's the only way to do both jobs. Confident in Katie to keep the ship afloat and even grow it. That's not negative but being realistic. In any event the Department needs to expand and a full time. fundraiser position would more than pay for itself. Bo knew and wanted that ( I saw the proposal) but was shut down from above.
One problem with the above is the potential conflict and in-fighting with Alumni Development etc. regarding money raised. Has happened before ! Need a strong President to sort all this out.

Don’t disagree with the lack of staff compared to many schools, but if you hire an AD with fundraising experience then you at least have less of a need to create an additional position. Now we have no one with fundraising experience and no position to hire someone. And looking at our support staff, the reality is even if we were to create a new position, the person we would hire would most likely have minimal experience.

While it's very early in her tenure and I am only viewing from afar, I have to say Katie has done a very nice job in her first couple months. Little things I've noticed like the website being up to date, games being marketed better, first pitch dinner looks to have been well attended and received, and a better effort at honoring the past. Nothing Earth shattering but seems to be running the ship far better than her predecessor and as she can gets acclimated can further put her stamp on things. I haven't been able to even make a home game this year so others could probably speak better than I but so far so good in my opinion.
Also forgot to mention the volleyball hire looks pretty good on paper.

Thanks, youngalum. I attend home games regularly and agree. There is more athletic staff on hand so that may be the reason for the improvements. They just had Peacock Nation Day and raised over $76K which I believe is a record. I truly wish Katie the best and hope that she really grows in the role and thinks outside the box with regards to fundraising. One key area is getting more butts in the seats. We are still drawing our usual 500-600 per game and it looks terrible on TV. I have yet to see a greater outreach to the broader Jersey City community to promote attendance, especially after our Elite Eight run. The entire city was behind the Peacocks…yet we missed the opportunity to get those folks behind the team for the next season. Many things that can be done. All one has to do is look at Seton Hall and what they do from a fan engagement standpoint. Hell, let’s take a page from FDU. It would be an improvement from what RP brought to the table.

While the current “ the world needs more Peacocks “ ad is excellent ,There’s no need to air it ten times on every telecast. While viewing the Marist telecast every single stoppage had a sponsorship, restaurants, car dealerships, banks. Their pregame and post game shows also had sponsors, as did keys to the game and highlights. I’m sure this generates considerable revenue and I’d love to see SPU employ this. I contacted Katie and her prompt reply indicated that she would reach out to espn+ about our doing this next year. It’s great to have an attentive AD ! Io Pavo

Cindy, great point. When I watch games there are several ads about SPU. However, I dont think I've seen a local business that is represented on ESPN + telecast. I watch many MAAC games (guarantee you more than anyone else in Indiana), and see local sponsors. Especially Siena when Carm is handing the ball off to a local jeweler. Probably being scrubbed as we speak. Go Peacocks!

Shouldn’t she be reaching out to the restaurants, car dealerships, and banks instead of ESPN? The reason we play the SPU ad is because we have no sponsors will to pay to run their ads. It’s a sponsorship issue, not a ESPN+ issue. But the fact that you got a response is at least an improvement.

But it looks like we’re starting from square one.
