SPU tops MAAC in being picked by most in this amusing , if not very meaningful , exercise .

Junction- I know you will love this. The net which bracket boys use to pick teams still LOVES Siena. They’re still about 30 spots over us in that rating. These rankings are useless. I think Monmouth is above us in net and rpi but we’re 2-0 vs them. These “experts” need better algorithms or better score reporting. I’m not saying we will make it to 1st place at end or win the tourney. We still have 3 rough road games and serious contender rider and a very hot Iona left home but give the devil his due based on current performance. I have no idea how many wins gets the regular season title. More than 12 fewer than15 but is it 13/14. No clue

I agree strongly with the points that you stress here .
As much as I might go a little over the top praising our frosh and sophs , our whole team and the staff , there ain't any sure wins in the next five . Peacocks do not have to have that long a memory to know how tough any road game can be . And I think Rider despite some of their weaknesses may be our toughest match-up in the MAAC . And no getting away from Gaels being Kings of the MAAC til some team removes that crown . And as very good as the Peacocks have been recently and how much fun it has been for us fans , we are still among the youngest teams in the country , and experience may play a little more a part as we get to the crucial season ending games and post season .
I guess that we do not play at high enough level for it to get more coverage re comparisons of how very good our recent stretch has been in terms both of how much underclassmen have been part of it and how distributed the minutes have been in terms of players . We are so , so close to having 13 guys play double digit minutes . Is any other team in the nation doing that now ? Has any other team ever done it and successfully ? I know that they keep stats on just about everything these days but may be a concept difficult to depict easily .

I couldn’t be more happy for Major Majak. This young man has kept his mouth shut, saw very limited minutes, worked on his game, and has become an important clog in the SPU wheel. He has always showed signs of being able to make a contribution and he is finally getting a chance to do so. We have three players on the roster who can significantly impact a game without scoring a point. They are Quinn Taylor, KC Ndefo, and Majak. I love players who play all out to win and in their own selfless way they can do it without having the bright lights shine on them. And Majak likely has more offensive skills than he has demonstrated thus far. I wouldn’t mind seeing the wraps taken off him a little bit. I think we could be surprised.
Whatever happened to Bostic? Does anyone have a clue?
I wonder when the alley-oop will become part of our offensive sets. Between Majak, Ndefo, and the Drame twins, it would seem we are not taking advantage of a enemy demoralizing opportunity.
I think we are all a little giddy with the success to date but as many of you have indicated, the next five games may be the toughest five game stretch of the season. Let’s hope for the best.

dreamweaver...couldn't agree more with you. I remember that you, I and a few others were pushing for Majak to get more playing time as early as last Season. Wonder if Woods hadn't been out if Majak would have gotten the minutes he has now. Who knows? How much he will continue to improve is open but in speaking with some of our fellow posters we all see both his potential and skills. Active on defense, runs pretty well, sets picks often without being charged with a foul, has pretty good court sense and shoots his fouls with a touch.
To be realistic on the negative ( need to improve ) side Majur still needs offensive skills including knowing how to position himself underneath....However, the bottom line is cautiously optimistic. As Al McGuire once said " you can't buy height".especially when you are 7'1" with a wing span of 7'3"!

SPU and Shaheen were mentioned this morning on WFAN by Boomer and Gio for the job he's doing here.Boomer brought it up to Jerry Reco their update guy who does the Rutgers games.Called it part of a renaissance of New Jersey college b-ball along with SHU, RU and Princeton.

Bleacher Report has us as a #16 seed playing Kansas. That is, of course, if we beat St. Francis PA in the PIG. Where do these “experts” come up with this stuff?

Not sure who pays attention to this kind of "reporting" Long way to go, but maybe Kansas will be scouting our next few games.

p85 , thanks for posting. It is a big deal for the school and the program , and no matter what happens from here because it is so widely followed this time of the year . It is even a bigger deal for the players who earned the recognition which was deserved even before this . Major milestone for them from the perspective that vey , very few saw them getting into contention to be a contender this season - even a few posting here as I remember .
So the players should sit and enjoy this moment in this rest and get ready period . Obviously , they should then contemplate how close they are to achieving something really amazing and how they get there . So the next step is nothing other than beating the Jaspers again on Friday toward the first goal which is to win the regular season title. . Only then should they even think about the tourney .
The other day in posting my agreement with Figgy on how tough each of the next five could be for varying reasons , I added that they could be tougher for Peacocks because experience becomes a bigger factor as the season moves toward each game being crucial . Still think that - but should add that , on the other hand , these players have already earned the mention that they have the big advantage over contenders like Iona and Siena in terms of depth which can also be so important in the regular season games left on short rest or in the tournament .
