SPU sports has been counting down the best sports moments of the past year on facebook. Number one, what else but the golf team's great performance in the MAAC tournament. Thanks again for the ride OT.

Thanks for your comments eclecticed. I can tell you that as good players that my team has/had, they are better young men. Very proud of these guys as well as my previous team of three years ago. Back then, we began to make some noise when we finished a close second to Loyola. Loyola had dominated the MAAC Conference in golf and probably has the best collegiate golf team in the state of Maryland. After moving onto the Patriot League, Loyola has again began to dominate in golf winning that Championship last year.
I tell you all this in order to relate what I consider a "funny" story. The story illustrates how close all my former and current players are. When last years team won it's first MAAC Championship they received a message from a member of that former team that had challenged Loyola. The message read something like ' Congratulations on winning the MAAC Championship. All former players are proud of your achievement. However, just wanted to remind you that our team, that lost to Loyola, posted a 3 day total score that would have bested your total by several shots'! Thought that the message was only funny but accurate. Guess we stand on the shoulders of those who came before.
Regarding the upcoming year we've lost our #1, #2 and #5 players BUT with our incoming recruits we should still be in the mix for our third Championship. I'm pretty conservative on predictions but St. Peter's Golf will be among the preseason favorites.
Finally, my take on coaching ( any sport )...coaches are important but realistically a coach is only as good as his players. As coaches, we can recruit. help bring the talent we have to a higher level but ultimately all we can do is help build a winning Program.

Today ( Aug 23 ) Derek Bard is leading in the finals of the US Amateur. Friend of last years Captain, Eric Edmunds, I had spoken to Derek about coming to St. Peter's. Can't understand ( tongue in cheek ) why he chose to attend the Univ. of Virginia! The good news is that, at least, we are aiming high with 3 pretty good recruits in this years class and having conversations with some high level players for 2016. Myself and my new, former Assistant and last years Iona Head Coach, Chris Merce...are aiming high.

Terrific, OT. Best of luck as the Peacocks go for the threepeat.
