Down 4, 1:28 to go.
Can't turn it over! Two unforced turnovers....ouch!

Another winnable game and we can't finish. Hell of a game by Q goes to waste. So frustrated right now. How many games are we going to give away? Desport kills us with the intentional at the end. Urrrgghhhh!

SPU scored 49 points tonight.
Forget any analysis. Yes, Rider has stronger players, but SPU had every opportunity to win this game tonight. For 30 minutes, Rider shot very poorly and shot poorly from the FT line as well.
It was a matter of time until Rider was able to exploit their superior size at every position on the offensive end. We only gave up 58 points, six of those in the last 30 seconds. Can't ask more of us defensively.
Our half court offense is just plain awful on most nights. We get very few open shots. SPU lost an opportunity to get a "W" tonight.

Watched on ESPN3 as well and pretty much have to echo your comments Loyal. With a couple of made buckets this game could have been won. I do think Rider with Okereafor at the point and Lopez inside presents big problems for us. Okereafor lead the way for them with 12 points,10 rebounds and 4 assists. Nice transfer from Shaka Smart's VCU program. They were very big and looked stronger than us as well. Q did a great job to hold his own and score off their big men but Fortunat had his way late getting the ball inside deep on easy entry passes. We seemed to tire at the end defensively allowing those entry passes.
Bottom line Rider with their size is not a good matchup for us. Hope we can beat them in the tourney if we play them. Hard to beat anyone three times in a season.

B/t/w the intentional on Desport late was a bs call. He fouled the man outside on the drive and only grabbed him it looked like to prevent him from going down when he left his feet on the drive. Kennedy on TV thought it was a lousy call as well made by a ref 45 feet away and not by the official right on the play who only called the original foul.Another huge key to the loss was Wyche going down with an ankle injury end of first half. He looked quicker than Rider guards before he went down. Lost a step thereafter. With him down we couldn't seem to get anything going offensively.

Simply put,it's called basketball and my interpretation is that you are supposed to put the ball in the basket. That did not happen often enough tonight so the roller coaster ride that is this season continued. Again score not indicative of the closeness of the game as we trailed by just a point with 2:35 left, then proceeded to bumble the game away with poor execution. Outside of Q's fine inside game 7 for 14,the rest shot 11-41. Plenty of poor shooting to spread around. spc fan completely correct on Elias foul call...he was fouled outside long before getting to the basket.Further the intentional foul call was bogus. These made it more difficult to win but probably not the deciding factor. Though closely guarded on the perimeter Desi was not able to drive to the hoop because of the big Rider presence inside.Marvin also struggled inside when double teamed and did not seem to be able to kick it out quickly enough. I would say an off night for both these important performers.Neither could come up big as they had in Albany. Once again a sub par home performance. As I've said before, this team has some of it's better games on the road. Good thing tourney is in Albany and not JC.

For spcfan who asked for comments by Cindy and myself
1) Not going to analyze or over analyze players and coach. Things do not look good so it's about time for all of us just to root for a victory, any victory.
2) Very few "regulars" there, even some that I don't know personally...empty
3) Definitely a winnable game, Rider didn't look they did last time. Another team we could play with but always come up a dollar short.
4) First half defense was great. At least three times we had Rider take the time clock down to 5 sec. only to shoot ( miss) but get the offensive rebound.
5) 2nd half we had a 3 point lead and they were missing shots. We came down court three straight times with a chance to widen that lead but came away empty all three times!!
6) As posted several games ago we have no "go to" player. Can't make it any more simple.
7) Admire Marvin...sometimes I like to watch play away from the ball. No knock on one or two other players who give their all but Marvin is working hard all game long. Watched him constantly fight for position, moving all the time.
8) Not about missing or not taking jump shots. We are just not aggressive attacking the basket as apparently we were in the Siena game. Why? I have no explanation. Trevis and Tyler tried but...
9) Makes several games this year, especially at home , that we could have won, hung in there but could never take control.

Well watched from work, I agree this game was winnable. Marvin put in work, not a great game for him 8pts, 3 reb but he fights from start to finish. Q great game, made some nice moves, think we handled the 7 ftr, only 8 pts he had but his backup caused some problems. I agree Trevis looked good on his drives, scored both and hit ft, did seem to lose a step after ankle issue, hope he is ok. Tyler drives look good. Our consistent guys were there, some guys no show. Again it is basketball as an earlier poster said, the ball has to go in the basket, hope our guys keep driving as it seems our "shooters" with open looks choose not to shoot. I like OT said want a win, any win. We need it

Short post on this: 49 points won't crack it unless the oppponent is St. Dominic Academy When it requires a career game from Fortunat to beat you, can't complain about defensive energy and effort Rider guards will stop Desi every time- quicker taller longer Not giving Marvin any love. Offensively a one dimensional player who can't won't or doesn't know how to score down low- Welton torched Rider and Marvin was invisible. Doesn't get fouled 2 of fts were on blown breakaway. Has become a fade away perimeter j shooter and teams play him that way. Muscle him when he posts and force him on outside. Unless he finds his way to 18 and 9 we're toast because I don't see a plan b I suspect he'll score vs Iona because Clueless isn't a strategy rocket scientist but when faced with real coaches I wonder

At the risk taking more criticisms, I will use two of Cindy's comments that were obvious in last night's game.
1)you are supposed to put the ball in the basket. Common flaw with team from day 1. Made adjustments to get ball over half court but than settled into same ole half court slow down. Problem was other team was a decent defensive team.
2)Get Desi the ball. Anybody see anything other than same ole plays. One would think some innovations would be used to free him up. Personally did not think it would ever happen against Rider prompting my reply to Cindy on this comment.
Now considering this, I don't think we could have won this game. Play Rider 10 times and we might squeak out two. WSe are too predictable. Now surprisingly we have a better chance against Iona who is not a great defensive team. You can talk about our wins but maybe only came against a team that played decent defense.
Lot of praise for the hard work, but few want to acknowledge the hands of stone or the weak offensive threat from the point. These are the things that really lost the game.

I don't think I said "get Desi the ball" but rather that closely guarded he was not able to use his quickness to blow past his defender since their men down low were clogging up the center. Desi did get the ball. He did get his touches, but was not able to create once he did.

figgy....without going into detail you a very wrong about Marvin. Against Rider he fought for position on both blocks all night long. Pushed, double and sometimes tripple teamed every game.. He was double and triple teamed constantly. Welton played an good game but all the attention given to Marvin gave Q many opportunities.
Marvin is not a one dimensional player. I would hope your analysis meant offensively because he is by far our best rebounder and has a nose for the ball, few players have, when it goes off either glass. If he doesn't get the rebound he continually keeps the ball alive.
However, true to my word above I'm not going to get into individual player criricisms. If I was I know exactly where I would go but it would serve no purpose. We all need to begin rooting. I'll just say, let's disagree and that I love Marvin's game. Gives the best effort on the team, night in and night out. Plays both ends of the floor.

Just amazing what I read here. Does anybody watch the game? Getting Desi the ball has not the problem, this year or last. Without being too critical, Desi has had every opportunity to do something with the ball. Read newfans post several threads ago. It was tough but very accurate. No further comment.

Peacock, how can you say weak offensive threat from the point cost game. Did he not score on 2 drives, plus a and 1. I beg to differ, he went to rim and he got the ball moved into scorers hands, they have to execute, if he hits them open its their move after that and it wasn't much of that happening. Maybe would have kept driving Gif not for the ankle issue. Hey OT, heard any word on the ankle. PG job is to set players up to score and he does that, "lead a horse to water, can't make him drink". Q again played very well, looking good past few games, hoping it keeps going. OT I won't go any further because being critical at this point doesn't do anything. I'm going to keep rooting, all we can do
