No one can accuse the SPC staff of not beating the bushes.
Today a 7'4" 17y/o high schooler visited the campus . Ikantu Maikatre, St Malarchy's HS ,in the Congo was first spotted by Fr. Buckley Sj , while serving his sabbatical in a mission in Africa.
He's pegged as a project, yet to quote JD ,"while he still has to learn the complexities of the five man game, and his academic record has to be vetted, you just can't teach someone to be 7'4".
On the downside, because he hails from one of the most remote areas of the continent , his experience is limited. Apparently there are not enough high schools or players in his area to field full squads. So he plays on a three man team in a four team league. His numbers are quite gaudy however...63.1 ppg, with a 38.2 board average.Word is ,despite great athleticism his handle is weak, since games are played outdoors on dirt ! Most passes come to him so his assist numbers are also low. If you want to learn more on Ikantu Maikatre, you can try his Facebook page,or look for his video on Youtube,or you can just have a great April Fool's day.
