My congratulations to coach Massone for a job well done. We tend to become fixated on basketball, but we've had some success in programs that don't receive due recognition. Again, Kodos to Coach Massone.

If this Vic Adams stuff isn't B.S., we've had a banner recruiting year on paper.

Adams commitment has been reported by Adam Zagoria in the post and Alex Schwartz at Northstar basketball report.
Adams is no savior but gives us something we desperately need another shooter-scorer. He's variously listed at 6-3/6-4 a natural two guard.
Averaged 17 points per game at Labette CC last yearin the Jayhawk conference. Transferred to Dodge City this year where he has put up similar numbers.
In high school he played at Dwyer in West Palm Beach a 33-2 team that went to the state finals in Florida. They also participated in a national ESPN tournament where they lost in the semis to national prep power Oak Hill of Virginia in a nail biter.Oak Hill always has a full roster of D1 talent and Adams was the leading scorer with 20 points.
50 percent of his scoring comes on 3 point shots and he seems to be around a 50 percent shooter overall and close to 70 percent free throw shooter. He was considered the secnd best player on his high school team fellow 6-4 guard Jacoby Brisset was considered their best all around player at point guard. Brisset went to Florida on a full ride in Football.
It looks like we are now full for next year barring anyone leaving and if so on paper this is a nice group with a pure point, two or three shooters and two nice bigs who appear to have great upside.
Hopefully this is the start of the turnaround we all so desperately want.

Alex Kline@TheRecruitScoop
St. Peter's has landed a commitment from JUCO SG Vic Adams, a source says.
Alex is usually spot on - no reason to believe otherwise.
The last two recruits are exactly what we needed; Hawkins - a 6-7 mobile athletic forward, with length, who can slash & shoot. Adams - a 6-3 shooting guard, that can shoot; I believe All-State in hs in Florida.
Great jog by coaching staff.

I went by his end of year stats last year bergenbird. Dodge City is a step up in competition from Labette. Also 34 percent from three is considered quite good generally.

Almost identical stats to our team averages this year. They don't play much D in JUCO games.
Still, if OT liked his play during his visit, then he should help.

As posted a month or so ago, I saw Victor participate in a pick-up game with our players prior to the start of our season. What I liked most about him was that he was not a "spot" shooter but one who was capable of creating his own shot. Also was quite capable of putting the ball on the floor, driving to the hoop and dunking. Well built player who also did not appear selfish.
Caution...before we get too far ahead of ourselves we still will have a lot of newbees. It will be most interesting as to who starts and who comes off the bench. Will also be interesting to see the speculation on this Board (sight unseen). Here is my very early take.
Point Guard.... before we speculate on the potential of Wyche (emphasize potential) Jamel Fields will probably be our starter. Tough as nails, very good defender and team leader type. His job to lose. Was hoping Desi could play point so that both he and Adams could be on the floor together. However, Desi while adaquate does not handle particularly well nor pass ( see his assist/turnover stats). No knock on Desi but he "is what he is" a very good ALL-MAAC level player at the #2.
Guards...so if Fields and Wyche play point and Desi at #2 what happens to Adams and Chazz? On reputation, Adams needs to be on the floor but where and when? Think he's more 6'3", not 6'4", unless he's grown and Chazz is a great, great defensive player who can also shoot the 3. Wouldn't count him out at all. I'm sure JD will sort things out as he usually goes quite deep into the bench but finding the right mix will not be easy.
#3....Hawkins, on paper, looks good but how can you not play Chris Burke? Forget all that intangible garbage, Chris Burke basically leads (or close) our team in rebounding, steals and blocked shots besides being an outstanding passer with great vision for a #3. Potential to score 10-15 points or more per game if he takes more shots. Poor shooter...I think not.
Bigs...From what I've seen Dominique needs to be a starter. But what about Desport and Welton? Desport is the real deal and has gotten some valuable experience this year. Needs to keep developing but his defense is better and he even showed a drop step interior move against Siena. Tucker? Where does he fit in. Can score but often gets abused defensively. Welton...who knows?
Bottom line is that we seem to have a lot of potential but not everyone can play at the same time. I post the above not because I have any solid idea as to who will play where or when but to point out the things JD and staff will have to evaluate and make decisions about. Let's just hope some of the newbees live up to their potential. Think we have some good ones but how good is still conjecture, at this point.
If anyone is unhappy about our recruiting? Speak up now before some bad mouthing begins when one or two of the newbees does not perform up to expectations.

Let me correct my mistake and clarify. His shooting percentages are what you posted ,similar at Labette as well. What i meant to convey was that 50 percent of his field goals were from 3.Clearly his forte is 3 point shooting not merely slashing from these stats.
He averaged 17 points per game at Labette and made 80 threes out of 159 field goals made.
In high school playing at the highest level of Florida high school ball as a senior he averaged over 16 points per game as well shooting 40 percent from 3 and and 51 percent overall FG percentage.Shot 69 percent from the charity stripe,48 percent of his field goals made were from 3 pt range. Also he was named All State in Florida, named top 100 player nationally by Max Preps and received one national high school player of the week award from them as well.
Hard to argue with that i/m/o.

One of our primary targets so I guess that's good. Good shooter and hope he is the guard that can take his man off the dribble as OT reports. Will likely need to pick up his defensive intensity to please the staff. Assuming no defections, this completes the roster for next season.
Some first look observations:
Early, but starters, or at least major minutes should go to guard trio of Adams, Wash and Fields. Dominique up front, with maybe Burke (going small again), or perhaps one of the Freshmen rounding out the group.
Lack of class balance. Six Juniors, only one Senior and two Sophomores.
Little experience, at least here (SPU). Burke with three years, Wash with one among those in the presumed first rotation. How well or fast can they blend?.....although give Fields and Dominique a year of scrimmage.
Big questions. Always the Freshman of course. Can Wyche take time from Fields? Will Welton be physically strong enough to at least help defensively or on the boards? Are Hawkins and Sellers maybe just overlooked kids that can contribute some early? Among our current Freshmen. Will Patterson show more confidence, make better decisions? Has Desport learned anything from his first year of adjustment to American ball?
Certainly early and always a lot of questions. With eight newcomers you might call this a new team, but certainly not a young one. Here's hoping the new blend will work.
And one last observation. On paper, best incoming class since the Leon, Jenkins, Bacon. At least with all the quantity, this should finally yield us some quality.

OT, based on your summary of Adams skill sets, especially his apparent ability to create his own shot, I would think the prime "2" guard spot might be his. Anyway, am sure both will get plenty of floor time. Even if Burke still gets the majority of small forward minutes (he may not if Adams and Desi are on the floor together) he will play his more natural position and we'll have improved at every spot on the front line, the 2 guard spot and arguably the PG spot, as Fields or Wyche appear to be able to hit the open threes they should get. Let's face it, individually we like our current players and root for them, but we are going to finish 10th.....so there is nowhere to go but up re: the talent level (at least according to every offensive measure and the eyes of Kevin Bannon). On paper, the new players appear to represent a major talent upgrade......who knows how it turns out? We should be able to rebound AND score in transition more effectively, especially if Welton hits the ground running. The days of watching games in the 50's should be in the rear view mirror.....thank goodness. :-)

One small note...the nice thing is that this group will have two years of playing together (minus Burke). So I am hoping to see a competitive team next year followed by an even better year in 14-15. Hoping for the best.
Also congrats to Coach Massone and the Track team. He has built a great program.

loyal...you highlight one of our "happy problems". Personally, I would like to play Desi at point (if he could handle it) and Adams at #2 but if that is not to be how could anyone play #2 over Desi? Fields, while not a shooter, is the prototypical point guard ....team leader type, outstanding defender, distributes well etc. Guess it's all about fitting the pieces together.
And what about Chazz? Not a bad learning season for him this year and as I posted tremendous one on one defender. Something JD values. Sellers???
You speak of Welton hitting the ground running. Hope so also, but is he better than Desport, Dominique or even Tucker now at the #4 not the #5. Tucker proven his value and could perform better at #4. The guy can score.
Let's hope that the competition for a starting birth becomes very intense and that self motivation leads each player to achieve hoped for results.
PS johngalt's assaeement is pretty much on target with what I see or project.
