Broncs a 8.5 point favorite.
They handled us with ease in Jersey City, as Rider guards penetrated and dished off at will.
Coming off a win Sunday and second time around vs. a league opponent.......SPU can keep this close. If Darius can hold off the onslaught inside, a victory is unlikely, but not out of the question.
With Marist playing much better with a full deck and it being very unlikely we draw the Saints in the PIG......it looks like we'll have our hands full with the Jaspers or Rider or Marist up in MA.
Hope our seniors can get a "W" tonight or Saturday @ home, prior to WNY trip at month end.
Odds are I will be the only soul from the Steel City watching then web stream tonight.

Last time out Rider looked superior,SP lost by 12,but Desi was 2 for 14 and Darius logged only 16 min. We can make it a game if both play better tonight. We'll be there to root 'em on.

Playing just down the road in NJ helps to make this less of a road game, plus we have momentum with a one game winning streak! Have a feeling we may pull what I would term a minor upset. Washington appears to have gotten his stroke back, so I'm expecting more than a 2-14 shooting line. Last but not least, Conley needs to stay out of foul trouble and give us a double-double.

Tied at the half 31 all. Rider scored the last 8 points of the half to forge the tie. SPU shooting well from the perimeter.

Rider very lethargic, it seemed, until SPU pulled ahead by 8. Flipped a switch, played better "D" and moved the ball around better on offense. Desi has 6, all other starters plus Fergie have 4 points. SPU shooting 50 percent from three and 52 percent from the field.

SPU with 5 fouls six minutes in as Broncs begin to assert themselves inside. Rider by 6. No Patterson or Desport so far, JD going with the seniors.

Bronc announcers all over Broncs for lacksadaisical "D" all game, now seem satisfied as Rider is tightening the screws on D.
"St. Peter's is the most offensively challenged team in the league" per the Rider announcers.

Yvon plays so tough.....has 9 points or so; made a three. He has worked so hard to improve his game and is a real warrior. He does the mostest with the leastest.

That was ex Peacock Kevin Bannon doing the color on the Rider broadcast. Other comments were that the Peacocks fought and played hard to the end. Per Bannon, John Dunne has nothing to work with. Also to add to the most offensively challenged comment some other comments were "SPC is the least imposing team physically in the league".Also Bannon pointed out in the first half when Rider was playing soft on "d", he said if Rider starts playing some defense they would blow away offensively challenged SPC.
Couldn't argue with any of his comments. He was being fair and truthful. We don't have much to work with and we are the least physically imposing team in the league most of the time playing only one player above 6-5.
Hopefully John will develop the new players coming in and we find a gem or two to get more competitive in the league.
Bannon also chastized Rider coach Baggett for leaving his starters in almost the entire way after SPU had cleared the bench in the last 4 minutes or so.Nice call by Kevin on a Rider broadcast.

On another note Rider was long and athletic and has three very nice looking freshman. Point guard Zedrick Sadler from Detroit who hurt us in the last game as well and two nice interior freshman Shawn Valentine and Derrick Stewart. They really have a lot of depth this year adding these three to veterans Myles and Thompson plus sophmore big Forutunat. They could be a sleeper in the tournament.
Also has anyone noticed Marist has really come on since we beat them at Yanitelli. Two big wins over upper division MAAC teams in the standings.

Once Rider got their wake up call, this game was over.
22pt. Differential from the last timeout in the first half. Broncs began to dominate inside; our 3's playing as 4's and 4 playing as a five were no match for Riders size and athleticism.
I thought we could play them tougher, but the physical mismatch was just too much.
Bannon was right. Unless JD's recruiting takes a major leap forward, SPU will have a hard time escaping the PIG and JD will be playing out the string these next three years while we 15 SPU fans twist in the wind.
I believe JD has better size and a better PG coming in. So......let's see if we can develop Welton, motivate Dominique and sign some shooters to convert passes from Wyche into assists.

Our team gave it the old college try, but we are just over-matched against most DI teams, including lowly Binghamton and FDU, two of the worst teams in DI. As Hamburger incessantly says, "It is what it is" when he tries to explain away another loss. We are putting a team out on the court that has less height than most high school teams. When I played high school ball for St. Patrick's in 1966, we went 6'9", 6'6", 6'5" 6'2', 6'0" and had very good 6'6", 6'5" guys sitting on the bench. Keep in mind this was high school in 1966, not DI college in 2013 and believe me St. Patrick's had no facilities and was in the hood....Eport. Rider's basketball facility is even worse than ours, and they are not 10 minutes away from NYC, yet they continue to out recruit us. Niagara is in the middle of no where and it's cold as hell up there and they out recruit us year after year. We need to drastically improve our recruiting or forget the program because we are only kidding ourselves about being a legit DI program.

Peacocks shoot 8-17, 47.1% from free throw line for another pathetic foul shooting performance. Haven't done the math, but have to immagine without Washington we would be dead last in the country for foul shooting percentage.

First 17 minutes with a 31-23 looked superb, then it was all downhill. 3s and overall size and athleticism could not be matched. Rider did us a favor when they pressed early on as we had points in transition with Evan splitting the defense . Agree with Eport on free throws...this has been a problem all season and must be addressed next if we are to improve. Darius played well, including taking charges on numerous occasions. Elias grabbed a few boards and passed very well. He seems to be improving a bit game by game as he sees more minutes, Tucker despite hitting a few 15 footers, had no idea where his man was and was quickly relegated to the bench. Canisius a tough matchup on Saturday, but I'm hoping for some love for our seniors . They certainly deserve it. Try and be there if you can.
