After 11 minutes of play, SPU is losing 6 to 4. I love SPU basketball and have done so for over 45 years. Coaches, players.....who cares?.......numbnut civilian analysis like mine aside.....this quality of basketball is just so sad to watch.

Played better in the second half.... couldn't drop the ball in the ocean tonight, which has become the norm. No way to win when you score 44 total points, except in C.Y.O.. Good to see Prescott contribute.

44pts.!!! Feel bad for the team (players and staff). Marist leading Iona with a few minutes left. May bump us into last place.

It is easy to make a case, after watching this effort, to conclude our guys have thrown in the towel. Shooting aside, effort was just not there. We can debate until Kingdom Come the nuances of whether or not Ffrench can or can't go left, or whether Mr. Intangible is a quality D 1 starter on a good club........but the results speak for themselves. For the good of my sanity, I have symbolically thrown in the analysis towel. This season is morphing into a total embarrassment for our staff. We'll be lucky if our better recruits for '13-'14 keep their commitments. Very, very discouraging. :-(

By the way, if anyone ever wondered why Cindy Crawford got a personal shout out from JD during the post game MAAC 2011 Title Game celebration, driving up the Cross Bronx and CT Turnpike to attend this game in person is Exhibit A. Cindy is our best fan.

Marist's 105-104 2OT win over Iona puts SPU solidly in last place. Things have really gone down hill since our win over Rutgers.

By the way, if anyone ever wondered why Cindy Crawford got a personal shout out from JD during the post game MAAC 2011 Title Game celebration, driving up the Cross Bronx and CT Turnpike to attend this game in person is Exhibit A. Cindy is our best fan. Coming home on the Cross Bronx was a nightmare...accident at White plains Rd closed all lanes for 45 minutes. Then ,car fire on upper GWB made matters even worse. I don't know that the effort wasn't there but the execution was horrible.Numerous shots were thrown in the general direction of the hoop. I've said before that to win Desi and Darius have to come up big,and must be aided with good nights from at least two of the countless "role" players we have. None of this happened tonight. First time this season I saw Irrizarry on the floor as John emptied his bench early. Darius was a cheerleader ,encouraging all his teammates down to the bitter end. First time I remember not a single Peacock in double figures. Marist win over Iona was big, since it matches out best conference win over the Gaels, puts us a game behind and they now hold the tie breaker with a win over the Jaspers even if we defeat the Saints at home. To dig us out of last we would now need a win over Canisius,Niagara,or Rider. I too love the Peacocks, as many here do,but following this team I believe takes time off for me in purgatory, should I make it that far. Yet I have to believe there will be better days ahead...and thanks Loyal.

Need also to give a shout out to Cindy's "better half" as she is with him every step of the way...and also very knowledgeable, basketball wise.
Cindy mentioned something about Darius that I noticed previously, especially at the Manhattan game. When Darius picked up his 2nd foul within the first few minutes and was relegated to the bench for almost all of the first half, I notiiced him talking to and rooting for Marquis. Just a good guy and teammate who is in constant motion, especially setting picks on offense. On defense, a lot of his fouls are silly in that he is always picking up some else's man, if beaten. Also, far and away our best in taking a charge. Having a poor year but love his effort and game.

Women's 2-20 team with win over Canisius move to 2-9 in MAAC, while Men fall to 2-11. Never thought the Women would have a better record than the Men's team. Most likely we will finish last in both divisions. Can't ever recall that happening in all my SPU days.

Agree with OT on Darius. Most of his "silly" fouls do come when he picking up someone else's lost man. Time and time again one SP deficiency leads to another. Lack of good outside shooters allows teams that are already bigger to pack it in inside when Darius is in and shut down his offensive game. When he is out,the opposing guards gamble or stick like glue to Desi or Prescott. Last night,Needham was an intimate companion of Washington. On defense the reverse is true, the need for interior defense opens up the kick outs that make average shooters marksmen when left alone. One thing just leads to another. Today with virtually every game on the internet or TV,it is very easy to scout a team, and after early season "under the radar" success, our shortcomings have been exposed and exploited. To repeat what is most obvious,we need effective bigs but also what is most basic...shooters. The bigs seem possibly to be on the way,but what of the shooters?Or will as stated above, the inside game aid our outside one?
