Laury transferred from a South Jersey school back to the East Orange H. S. for his senior year. He was at least 6-7 225 then and his games were sold out; I was at those games. He could handle, rebound and shoot. Not a Div. ! player? WOW! If Hamberger said this, he doesn't know talent. I have heard Hamberger on other post game analysis, and he is awful. If he is our lead recruiter, that is a problem, if he can't recognize talent. We need young motivated dynamic hungry-for-success assistants, with personality, who want to make a name for themselves; not a washed-up re-thread with little insight and no personality.

maacfan...with respect, I'm not going to comment on Bruce Hamberger (spcfan and I had a discussion at todays game and I agree on his and your take). However, our lead recruiter outside of JD is Marlon Guild. As stated in a previous post Marlon would be a tremendous asset to any Team he worked for. Very confident in his abilities. Seems to know and be respected by everyone. At the end of the Iona game I noticed several of their players seek him out for a warm hello. Hard worker, hungry and well connected.
Again, my take is not the ability to identify talent as our visits, contacts and offers have been a revolving door. We go after top tier talent but they just do not want to come. Draw your own conclusions why, but that's what it is.
PS As Cindy pointed out Wyche has been in attendance at our past few home games. Plenty of opportunity for him next year.

OT, never mentioned anything negatively about Marlon and agree wholeheartedly with you on him. Perception is important; ex-basketball players/stars would be helpful, as least one; ie, John Morton. All the good recruiters are good salesmen. Calapari was on Wall Street before he went into coaching. A successful coach is only as good as his recruits. Talent is king!

maacfan...I agree with you 1000%. Most coaching is overrated, it's the recruiting which counts most. Certainly, the John Woodens and others who can coach come along but the field (basketball, football etc.) is littered with "used car salesmen". Probably overstated that a bit but talent is definitely king!

Something is wrong with our rebounding skills when 5'8", 150 lbs Desmond Wade gets 10 rebounds including 6 offensive boards. Think it may be time to start working on the art of blocking out.

Very difficult listening to Hamburger's post game analysis. Wish he would work on his speaking skills. Must say "Ya know" at least 100 times in a 3 minute interview. Also, hate his favorite expression, "It is what it is"when he tries to explain a loss.

Agree with eport . I guess if you're D Wade you get rebounds regardless of height. Remembering Einstein's definition of insanity, JD needs to do something different. This lineup/rotation is just stale. My suggestion Start Tucker, Ferguson, Conley with Ffrench at point and Burke at 2G. Bring Desi and Raymond off bench for energy uptick and specific sets. Let Tucker play inside and create matchup problems at 3/4 with others. Tucker will have trouble inside I know, but since when is Conley Bill Walton? Burke at 2 might be encouraged to shoot and with Tucker screening Ffrench might have better angles to targets of Conley and Ferguson to dish off penetration. Meanwhile Desi gets to watch and enter a game with flow and Raymond can do what he does with abandon off bench. What's the worst that can happen? You lose 8 in a row or something? As an aside and not knowing anything about the internal goings on of the team, JD is far harsher with Ferguson than any other player when a mistake happens or something goes wrong. To me it was real obvious vs FField. I really didn't like it, but I also don't know the team dynamic at all

figgy...don't know if I agree with your proposed starting lineup but I do agree that things look stale and some type of shake up is in order. At least you went out on a limb with your selections.

No harm in shaking things up......but..... Rearranging the deck chairs in the Titanic.......we just do not have the talent. We have to cling to the hope that this recruiting class will be WAY better than our last six. Period.

figgy , excellent post . I could not agree more on the two major points of your post . It is sad when something is broken , and our staff is so wedded to one way of doing things that little is done to put our players in a better position to win . Your second point , and even much sadder to see as a long time fan , was the treatment of Karee and other antics by our coach in that game .
I typed about 16 paragraphs after the above . It felt great to type them but I deleted them since I believe that it would not help a program that I love for them to be read and debated given the situation that we find ourselves in . I think there are a lot of great young men playing for us . I hope they keep trying as hard as they did Sunday .

Fergie, Prescott, Jackson and Conley may not be all-MAAC material, but this year their play has regressed. Desi's year has paralleled last years Prescott collapse over the second half. To an admitted "outsider" here, via web stream, it looks like a number of our players have quit and are mailing in an effort. Didn't see the Fergie exchange, but sad to hear about it. There is woe in our urban Mudville; no doubt about it.

Figgyprez....agree we need some kind of lineup shake up. Would like to see Tucker and Ferguson get some more playing time. Granted we lose a little on the defensive side, but both Tucker and Ferguson have looked pretty good on offense with their limited minutes. Also, Tucker rebounds well for his size and Ferguson does have a knack for blocking shots. We have nothing to lose at this point, since things can't get much worse.
