From NJHoops.com:
St. Peter's has gotten a commitment from 6-foot-3 NIA Prep postgrad J'von Raymond. The speedy guard graduated from Columbia High school before attending the prep school.
NJ Hoops Jvon Raymond
As a junior at Columbia Raymond averaged 12 ppg and 8 rpg. As a senior the combo guard had and 11 assist game and was named 2nd Team All Essex County by the Star Ledger.
This past Fall he was named All Tournament at the Hoop Group Jam Fest.
Raymond has a very good first step and gets up and down the floor in a hurry. His handle is solid enough so he can break you down off the bounce. His good athleticism enables him to be a solid defender as well.

I found him listed as Yvon Raymond... did NJHoops.com mess up? Here is Raymond winning a dunk contest in 2007 while on Columbia: gmchoops.com/blog/?p=382

Most likely means Bennett is off the table. Might keep Gooding now.

Found this, Loyal will love it.
"Another recent Essex County high school roundball standout, Columbia High’s 6-4, 205-pound guard Yvon Raymond, has drawn recent interest from the University of Rhode Island after a fine performance for NIA Prep as the Newark school played extremely well as a unit in the National Prep Invitational Tournament, held Feb. 6-7, in Rhode Island.
Raymond is listed on the NIA Prep web site as having made a commitment to D-2 Cameron (Okla.) University, but Robinson said that in addition to Rhode Island expressing interest, Wichita State and North Carolina Central could also emerge, so the door is apparently still open for Raymond to change his mind. Any word on who else was after him? I like a speedy 6-3 with hops and handle.

Yvon Raymond at the Hoop Group Summer Showcase, according to CAA insider:
Yvon Raymond (2009, 6-3 SG) This guard can handle the ball and get into the lane. Yvon scored after driving to the hoop on several plays. He banked home a couple of those shots, including a huge one late in the contest. Yvon has nice size for his position too.

Now Wichita State and Rhode Island are learning the lesson we taught Felician last year.....don't even TRY to recruit against the Peacocks!

Sounds like Ramond is a slasher. Does anyone know if he can shoot the three?

from videos , a slasher with good handle and very good elevation . few outside jump shots shown so I'll guess work to be done there . From another board and I presume NIA or Columbia fan -- " congrats to SPC on getting great athlete and good kid " . That is always great to hear . Let us hope he comes up close to our current Columbia guy , Ryan , in talent , effort and class .

Not many on our roster can break down the defense off the dribble....really, only Leon does it consistently. When ready, J'von's stated skill translates well in end game situations. Seems like classic "tweener"......let's see if he can be effective in Division One going to the hole at 6'3"......most players who drive well at that height are successful because their outside shot must be respected...making that quick first step all that more effective. Level of competition was certainly good and his numbers at that Prep league level compare well to Bellingers (Winchendon). Seems like a very nice pick up at this late date.

Raymond played in a much more competitive environment than did KO, prior to joining SPC.....same level of competition as Bellinger, for whatever that is worth. J'von seems to have earned some tourney awards beyond the scope of KO's playing ability. I am hoping J'von will be a better player than KO, eventually........but we'll see.

Reference was to style of play. Hopefully more talented and, most important, a better attitude.
