Boone is the only player who seems to have an offense mentality.

Peacocks generate the ultimate back door cover, but lose 59-50.
Never really in it in the second half. Wyche played better and created some shots, but defense could not sustain first half excellence and teams traded baskets the entire half.
Is it execution, shooting ability, coaching scheme, bad luck, sunspots....who knows? Only thing for sure.....our offense is MIA. On most offensive half court sets, it looks as if the five players have just been introduced to each other.
One observation. If Q's injury can be healed while he is playing and he will gain more mobility and ability to jump, then fine. However, if this is the level of play he is capable of, a medical redshirt is in order, because he can't elevate and his game is severely compromised. Hope our docs are giving good information and our staff is making the right decision.

Not even a pyrrhic victory as there is nothing good to take out of this game or the last three. Certainly, Desi's return will help as our 3 point shooting is atrocious and no one except Marvin has stepped up or has shown a consistent effort. Blame goes on Coaching staff and players, if that what's one calls it. Feel for the entire team as I know that effort is not the problem.

The effort was there, but the performance wasn't. Are we ever going to break the 60 point threshold?? If we could just score 60 points a game we would be 3-1 instead of 0-4!!

Boone is a player . We need him on the court a lot . He was 3-11 and had a few defensive lapses . But defense is a learning experience and I am confident he we will get a lot better at it . And the 3-11 can't bother a Peacock fan . He is an aggressive player with talent ; 9 rebounds , I believe . It was good to see Elias with some good play out there today for us after looking just totally lost the first three . And that was a terrible call against him in a key situation which would have given Wright his fourth foul early . No matter how the announcers tried to rationalize it ( and one did admit it would have been called the other way 19 out of 20 times ) Elias boxed him out with perfection and Wright came over his back . Shame when you make an excellent play , and the call goes against you .
I said before the season started that the docs and staff should err on the side of caution with Quadir no matter how uch the young man might want not to miss season . I am sure they made best decision they could but still not sure that it was the right one . Maybe , it was right given that he looked fine in the first game . But he has not looked close to the same player he was last season since then . Quadir , the coaches and the staff should reconsider what is best for the young man in the long run .
We do miss Desi . How can you not miss a guy that good in terms of his own play and in terms of how he opens up the court for others because of the coverage that he demands , because he is such a defining guy on this team . But that is no excuse for our record . Injuries happen to most teams during the course of the season . My hope is that he is healthy for the Canisius game which has now become a must game for the MAAC season .
It was good to see that Travis is not in the Witness Protection Program .
But , now we come to my biggest takeaway from this game . And , I will stress again that this is not the opinion of a basketball expert . It is the opinion of a fan who has not seen a Peacock game in person this season or all of last season .I am sick and tired of watching JD coached hoops . That is obviously keeping in mind - for those who have to have it emphasized for them - that JD knows way , way more about basketball than this fan . But unfortunately that does make him a coach who is maximizing the Peacocks chances of playing winning basketball .
He has been our head coach for nine seasons or so . When do you try something different . If it is broken , try to fix it .
Some here mentioned that Trevis had a terrible game against Niagara . He did indeed have a terrible game . He had a bad start again today . But with both , it looks the young man is trying to play JD basketball which tremendously hampers what he does best . It looks like he is trying to play the perfect basketball game just as it has looked like Dunne has been trying to coach the perfect basketball game for nine seasons now . So we start out most games so conservatively doing what we are not particularly good at and get ourselves in a big hole to dig out of .
Has anyone ever noticed how we so often seem to play our best basketball when digging out of that hole . Now some will say that is a different part of basketball. It is helter-skelter hoops , and the other team is playing differently , trying to protect a lead , some will say . Others will say that you don't have enough players with talent to play that way . I say why don't we just try it , particularly in the rest of the OOC this season .
Trevis is at his best when he is playing Nate Archibald kind of point guard . He can get to the basket scoring or getting fouled or breaking down the defense to get wide open outside shots for other players . I think he had three TOs in the first half trying to play JD hoops . He had none in the cond half when we were playing aggressive basketball , and he was scoring or getting others open shots . We have potentially an excellent point guard , a precious commodity . I still believe that we have enough talented players to play this type of basketball , and compete at the top level in the MAAC . In fact , we have the type of basketball athletes who will show their skills to better advantage playing it .
Is there a chance we will play even worse , particularly as we adjust to trying it . Sure there is . But as a fan , I like to see a Peacock team tryin from right out of the gate . Not a team trying to play the perfect game , a team trying not to lose . Maybe that is not what we are trying to do but it sure looks like it to me today and after nine years . JD gets a lot of credit , probably from those who know more about hoops than me - for stealing games , for upsets , for winning games that he is not supposed to . Personally , I'd rather see us watching a coach who maximizes our chances of winning each game . Do you really think that there is as much difference in shot making talent between our guys and the other teams' guys . I don't . It is much easier to shoot when each offensive possession is not valued as much as it is under JD basketball .
I know some think JD can't recruit . I think that he does it very well. But once you get the kids , let them play . It might lead to watching more entertaining basketball . It may even result in as many wins or maybe even more . I heard from some how the preseason is for experimentation . Well , let's let the staff experiment with their style .

Not trying to start another "thing" with junctionkid but his take/excuses for Trevis play is mind boggling. Have no problem with criticizing the Coach but when it is stated, not even implied, that Trevis has been hampered by playing JD style of basketball then it just becomes excuse/finger pointing time. Trevis, and I remain a Trevis supporter, has played poorly in every game. Certainly he has shown some brief flashes of his potential but like the rest of the team has performed well below expectations. I hope he turns it around.
Now for the finger pointing and excuse making. So if Trevis is playing JD's style of basketball how come Jamel Fields is not? Trevis, as figgy and others have pointed out, takes almost 8 seconds to get the ball over the time line and then dribbles, dribbles, dribbles. Fields gets the ball over half court quickly and attacks the defense. Everyone saw this in the Niagara game. In fact, it was Fields play and energy that started our comeback. So I ask again if Trevis was hampered by JD's style of play (just an excuse) why was Fields not?
Truth is I agree with junctionkid that Trevis is at his best attacking. Problem is that when you are not an outside scoring threat and your defensive man plays off of you it's hard to drive an attack the basket. Yet, Trevis' few good moments in every game came when he, at least, tried to attack. What makes anyone think that JD doesn't want Trevis to do that? Are they mind readers and/or insiders?
Bottom line Trevis has played poorly ( like most of the others ) because he has played poorly...turnovers, bad passes etc. This is not the Trevis I saw last year and I hope/assume that he will return to form. However, his poor play is on him.
PS Before those who misintrepret (purposefully or not) I agree that the coach and staff desereve much of the blame for our poor start.Being the standup guy that JD is, he would agree. But watching this team play makes me question a lot of things. Perhaps I was right when junctionkid derided my point of view that unless Q stepped up or we got an additional scoring threat that we'd not be much better than a mid-tier team. Was I right or wrong? Yet I remain hopeful that Q gets healthy and approaches his potential, that we find another scoring option, that Desi returns and that the other players get their confidence back and run the MAAC table.

Just back...I believe the Peacocks thought the start of the game was 12:45...after an 11-0 Explorer start the Peacocks won the game 50-48.The offense bereft Peacocks met with a very solid defensive team in LaSalle. They have yet to allow 60 points this season. ..sometimes it's not just about us. It is clear there is much lacking.Q is a shadow of what was expected due to injury.Ty and Chazz again had sub par shooting, together with Q they shot 3-19,and you're not going to win when Marvin only gets 6 attempts. I doubt the 10 first half turnovers were part of the coaches game plan. Boone is a player-no fear and 9 boards. Desport had his best game but will still need to do more if we are to win. Neither Dennis nor Hester have shown the ability to create. Wyche's second half improvement was lost in the loss. Amazingly we cut the lead to 6 with a minute to play...still no quit or lack of composure...just a lack of shooting and finishing skills. We missed more than our share of bunnies today. Met another poster BlvdAlum today at game....a loyal Peacock
