Niagara has been playing very well this year. Most would expect us to lose. After blowing a home game against Manhattan, it would be nice to see a good performance and steal one here.
During the game I'll be interested if they press us. Could be a good thing as Blaise handles well and may give us an opportunity for our athletic team to open up.
Will also want to see if we apply and 1/2 court, 3/4 court defensive pressure.
Regarding players....interested in seeing if Darius is back to normal after a pretty good game (minus foul shots) against Manhattan.

Purps open a two point favorite on our home court. Critical game if we have designs on avoiding the PIG. Have to protect home court. IMO, this one team we shouldn't press too extensively......they are small and quicker than us. Will have to grind out a win, take advantage of their soft half court defense by extending our possessions and take care of the ball.....they will be looking to speed the game up. Blaise should be able to drive and score, unless White is better than I think he is. I think we can slow it down, frustrate Niagara and win this one.....we'll see.

Saw Green a few times this year via Webcast. Very special player. Can play at A-10, MAC level, IMO.

loyola , I agree wholeheartedly on both points . I really want us to press and trap IF a game is going really bad just to shake things up or if we have a distinct chance to take advantage of another team's weakness ( the Manhattan game ) . This is not one of those teams to start with pressure . They are quick , play with four guards a lot and Green is just a terrific player and ballhandler at the MAAC level . We will have to shoot well and play tough half-court defense against their three scorers . Rebounding will be key to state the obvious , and could go either way .

Ffrench penetrating at will, setting up dunks, layups and wide open jumpers. Purps "sleepwalking", per me and the color announcer. 7-0 SPU.

JD with technical. He seems frustrated with the lack of effort on the boards. Purps not getting good shots, but Conley and Jackson allowing easy putbacks. Burke's inability to finish (layup and wide open three missed) really hurt. Intangibles aside, we need a wing scorer in the worst way.

18-2 run for Purps. 18-9 with 10 minutes left. Much more athletic players; our front line looks like a statue.

Down 35-23 at the half. Purps got hot from "3". Giving up 35 to Purps is no disgrace. Scoring 23 against one of the worst defensive teams in the MAAC is. 16 Niagara points off 9 SPU turnovers really hurt; as did Niagara getting 8 offensive rebounds. Not impossible task in 2nd half, as Purps defense is horrible, but SPU needs to minimize turnovers and protect the defensive glass.

Burke with three three point goals. 11 points. Breakout game (half?). SPU shooting 50 percent and is down 12. Purps must have 15 layups/putbacks.

60-43. What I did not recognize prior to the game was just how much more athletic the Purps are. Can't stop their penetration or offensive rebounding. Not closer to 11 this half. Need many stops.

Burke and Jackson with 17 and 14 points. Purps either dribbling for a layup, setting up an easy layup via the assist, or shooting a wide open three. Purps with only 3 turnovers to SPU's 12. Ouch!

77-58 Final. Never in it in the second half. Niagara too athletic and sliced through our defense, surprisingly, with ease. Their pressure bothered us when we had the ball. Very nice game from Burke; shot with confidence during the last 30 minutes. Jackson tried hard and had 14 on 7-8 shooting. Not much else too report. Epic struggle upcoming in Albany Sunday. :-(

Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to an opponent. Niagara brought their A+ game tonight. Mason and Green were superb. Zone defense clogging up the middle shut down penetration by Ffrench and Raymond which has become an important part of our winning formula. When our three top scorers combind for but three points in the first half I figured we were in trouble. Loyal, maybe that elusive spirit that you thought had taken over Blaise's body left and entered Burke's.A great night ,lost in a losing effort. The shot he is deadly in during practice finally found it's way to the game floor. It will help if he can continue while the others return to the form that brought wins over Iona and Rutgers. Maybe we can play Central Connecticut state a few more times. Next it's up to beautiful Albany on Sunday where we badly need a win. If Darius can continue his mastery over Anosike I think (hope) we can win. The Saints(Indians) upset Canisius tonight.
