The following was written today on the NERR site that tracks New England kid.
"Two years ago Jeron Belin was one of the most talented seniors in the state of Connecticut. He put up huge numbers for Maloney High School in Meriden, helped to lead them to the finals of the state tournament, and picked up All-State honors in the process. Unfortunately, Belin was never able to become NCAA clearinghouse eligible and so he was forced to go to Junior College. "
Most important about this is that htis quality of kid would not have come here out of HS back then. One only hopes Dunne is successful in selling th current crops that the school has changed in basketball committment from the days of our prior President.

Other possibilities arer Siena,St Joe's and UNLV.Decided not to visit Iona. I'm guessing that JD lost interest in Spellman after he got both Raymond and Samuels. The real question is the last scholarship....is there a late target, perhaps a dark horse transfer? Will he hang on to it?

Spellman's resume and the list of interested schools made me think he'd go higher than Morgan State. Any final word on Gooding's return? Either one or two left, depending on that answer. Since Akeem is evidently a good leader and can set a good example for the newcomers...and can match up well defensively with most MAAC scorers, I hope he returns to complete our (my) 8 man rotation of Bacon, Belin, Conley, Hill, Samuels, Jenkins, Leon and Gooding. Not too shabby!

Not too shabby! First, the rumor is that Gooding is gone. After a decent recruiting effort and two ships remaining this is a black mark for Dunne. For those who think it was Gooding's decision should have asked him. One did and the answer would surprise you. Second, Spellman is not qualified. He will have to sit out a year. Not sure we could have accommodated him as we have done same twice in the last three years (Leon and Conley) and not a desirable action in both the schools eyes and there MAY be a four span limit for this type of action. Add in the coach of Morgan State and one suspects some pretty actions to get him in academically. Bozeman rates as one of the dirtiest coaches in the nation and Morgan State is so below the level this kid is rated at.

Spellman info adds up. Too bad for him. Re: Akeem If it is true: a) AG is not coming back and.. b) he was eased out... ...then we have to assume the staff felt Belin, Conley and Samuels would have eaten significantly into Gooding's rotation time. Other possible consideration is the need to have a player on board now who can significantly contribute when our "Big 3" graduate....a roster balancing issue. Too bad, I liked Akeem's work ethic and feel if he were counted on only 8 minutes a half or so, he would have made a valuable contribution, especially defensively. Roster churn is not pretty, I agree, but I do think the staff must have considered this VERY carefully before coming to the conclusion reported above, if the info is accurate. Observation: In support of the productivity side of the roster churn, not one player who has left/been "run off" looks like they'll make a significant D 1 contribution....just saying. Akeem, if you do not return, we appreciate your 100% effort and best of luck!

Don't know how some of these stupid rumors get started and then take on a life of there own. Akeem's decision was his own and made long before any of the current recruits were signed. BTW I did speak with Akeem on several occasions as early as when the season ended. Pretty good student and hoping to get on with his life. Was also, at the time thinking about possibilities in Europe. Let's put and end to this silly and stupid guessing without knowing anything about the situation. Bottom line, Gooding had decided to graduate long before any of the new recruits were signed. Staff had nothing to do with it. Typical of Akheem it was a class act to inform JD early so that, great kid. Let's think a little!
BTW, Conoly is listed at 6'6" but his actual height (from the horses mouth) is 6'71/4"

Don't know how some of these stupid rumors get started and then take on a life of there own. Akeem's decision was his own and made long before any of the current recruits were signed. ; First Akeem said It is the coaches decision in a discussion with an alumni and he would stay. Not difficult to understand how a kid would modify what he says to people who are part of the administration, particularly, when both the coach has voiced it was time for the kid to leave and the kid himself acknowledge a desire to stay. Say whatever you want, but Dunne has voiced to many that it was time for Gooding to leave. Here you have a kid that was the mainstay of the defense that actually gave the squad the decent final conclusion, and the coach thinks it is his time to leave. Most know it was his love for Bennett but even that was not a smart call. As far as I am concerned it is only a singular black mark, but your defense shows a position that Dunne can do no wrong.

Fantasy! First of all this has nothing to do with Dunne. You take every opportunity to knock when it has little to do with the issue. Are you already over your embarassment of all your posts last year and not once had the courage to admit you were wrong when others stepped up and acknowledged that they might have misjudged the situation last year. I tried to overlook your "disappearance" after embarassing yourself so much and then running away like a little kid last year.Furthermore, given your track record who are you to say what is a smart call and what is not.Laughable!
Regarding Akeem, did you speak with him personally? Were you present for any of which you claim? Well I was, and not as part of the "administration". I spoke with Akeem as a fan and one who got to know him better than any other "alumni". Even if I took your far out senario why would one suggest that it was a " black mark" against anyone? Akeem was going to graduate in June. Perhaps it may have been in the young man's best interest to get on with his life rather than to try to please a handfiul of Peacock fans and a coaches ego. For what? to take a few credits without an advanced degree? Some coaches FYI put a young man's best interests ahead of personal glory. Akeem, if he stayed would have been a key contributor but NO ONE pushed him out the door. It was his call and probably the right one.
Oh! and by the way who are the "many" that JD voiced his opinion to that it was time for Akeem to leave? Typical of your posts.

Patrick Jackson?
The 6-6, 210-pound Jackson started most of the first 15 games last season before being supplanted by freshman standout Dane Miller.
Jackson scored 15 points in the opener against Marist and never hit double figures again.
He averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 10.9 minutes per game during the Scarlet Knights' 15-17 season.
Jackson, who came to Rutgers from Boys and Girls High in New York City, said in a text message that he and his family met with Rutgers coach Fred Hill and that both sides supported his decision to leave.
He said he will finish the academic year at Rutgers while also looking for another school to transfer to. Jackson will have two years of eligibility remaining.

NY Post-725
-- Cardozo sharpshooter Malcolm Brooks' hopes of being at a Division I school in the fall have been all but dashed. So he is doing the next best thing: attending prep school with an eye to ward 2011. St. Peter’s, St. Francis, Radford and Binghamton are all interested, but don’t have any scholarships left. St. Peter’s, Brooks said, promised him a spot after a year of prep school

From the Battle of the Boroughs: Darrel Lucky considers himself different from other New York City guards.
The 5-foot-10 Paul Robeson star’s game isn’t all about penetrating and forcing drives to the basket. Lucky showed off his mid-range ability, scoring 12 points for Brooklyn in a 58-56 loss to The Bronx stars in the World Basketbal Festival's Battle of the Boroughs semifinals Friday at Rucker Park. He wasn’t afraid to pull up in transition and bury jumpers from the elbow and showed off superb speed and acceleration with the ball in his hands.
“I learned how to pull up at a young age and use it to my advantage and it works,” he said. “They don’t expect it. New York City kids are just dribble, dribble. They expect me to go to the hole, so I just stop and pop.”
Damion Reid Robeson's Darrel Lucky dropped in 12 points for Brooklyn. Lucky, who was given the nickname "Coffee Mugs for Ears" by emcee Joe Pope, is coming off a fine season at Robeson. He averaged 19.4 points per game in league play, which included a win over Lincoln. Lucky upped that to 26 points per contest, 3.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds in four postseason games. He is garnering interest from Hofstra, George Mason, the College of Charleston, Canisius and St. Peter’s, among others.
“The atmosphere is great,” he said of playing at Rucker. “I didn’t enjoy it to the fullest because we got the loss to The Bronx.”
