Longtime St. Patrick High boys basketball coach Kevin Boyle has resigned and taken over the same position at Montverde (Fla.) Academy.
Boyle spent 23 seasons at St. Patrick, building the program into a national powerhouse. This year's team finished with a 26-1 record and ranked No. 2 in several national polls.
Boyle met with his players after school this afternoon and broke the news.
"He just said that he was doing it for the benefit of him and his family," St. Patrick senior guard Derrick Gordon said. "A lot of people were mad. A lot of the underclassmen were upset. A lot of people were shocked."
Boyle led St. Patrick to five Tournament of Champions titles and more than 400 victories.

There was quite a bit of speculation in blogs that Boyle was convinced John Dunne was getting a job and moving on and he was angling to get the SPC job. Have to assume this move may mean the Dunne watch is over.

Boyle will do great in Florida. It will be a lot easier drawing recruits to Florida versus Elizabethport. Both my brother and I played basketball at St. Patrick's and got to meet Coach Boyle when we had the honor of being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Since my brother and I were also graduates of St. Peter's College we had a natural connection. I got to know him quite well and feel that if the need arises he would make a great coach at St.Peter's College. He worked miracles at a small school with little resources. Sound familiar??

Boyle left for an annual salary of 130,000 a car a 4 bedroom house provided for him and his 15 year old son will transfer and play for him at Montverde. Also no state income tax in Fla makes it even more lucrative. Even if JD left SPC doubt we could match that package.

I agree it would be hard to match Monverde Academy's compensation package. Only incentive to coach at St. Peter's would be to use the opportunity as a stepping stone for a big payday with a major college program. The fact that he is an alumni would also help.

There are three scolarships left. Lamin was the fourth.
The Dunne watch is over. He is at SPC for at least another year. I would not rule Boyle out of the future if Dunne bolts.
The third scholarship is a bit of a wildcard. If the first two signees are talented bigs, the third scholarship could go to a transfer or even a good shooting guard.

Are you positive we have three left? With Costner coming back, and if Markese Tucker qualifies I thought we only had two left.

Only two left unless someone knows something else on Tucker. No one bolting that I'm aware of.

I forgot about Tucker but believe he may be out of the mix.
I would not be surprised if someone like Raymond opted out after all the DNP coach's decision time he spent on the bench. Hopefully he stays but it would not be shocking.

Yuvon Raymond is not a starter. At best, an energy driven 6th man...great role player to have on your team. As a Sophomore got plenty of playing time for his type of player, except mid-season. Whether his relegation to the end of the bench for those few games was a disciplinary move or not, I don't knowbut I suspect so.Think it made him a better player when his playing time was given back to him.
What I do no, is that as a freshman Yuvon played somewhat out of control and not utilizing all his defensive skills. Tends to be a bit of a moaner to the refs and was called for a few technicals which hurt the team. Whatever message JD sent seemed to work as Yuvon became a valuable asset down the stretch.
Yuvon knows his value to this team and also knows his limitations as a player. I would be very surprised if he "opted out"....a potential star in D11 but a role player in D1

Tucker is doing well in class, so unless he screws up royally, count on him playing next year. Based on what I've read and heard he will be able to contribute as a freshman.

That is not what I heard but the person who told me might not know what they are talking about. Maybe you're right.

Anali Okoloji brings too much baggage and Dunne has set his sights much higher. There's no reason to push the panic button. We still have Conley and Dunne has not been asleep at the switch. Dunne has many irons in the fire and all indications are that Tucker will be playing next year.

I've heard that Tucker will be very borderline to qualify. But like dreamweaver, not a certain fact but just what I heard. I disagree with eport that he will contribute as a freshman. From what I've seen he has little to no inside game and is undersized to play the 4 but too slow to guard the 3.
Okoloji will be an option that the will be considered- wouldn't help us next year though.

Tucker is being closely monitored and unless something goes drastically wrong he will qualify for next year. Never made the statement that Tucker would contribute next year. I made the statement, "Based on what I've read and heard he will be able to contribute next year" , which is pure conjecture. We'll have to wait and see if he lives up to his billings.
