Might as well start this thread. Carino is reporting we are finalizing a pay day at Rutgers.
Also with 13 MAAC schools that makes 24 conference games if they go with an even schedule. Really hope we get into some kind of preseason tournament.

24 conference games are too many imo. Is there any other league that does that? We have to go unbalanced. Would leave only 5 ooc games and most schools like about 3 paydays do that leaves 2 one of which is probably a gimme. Leaves 1 ooc 50/50 game. Of course could add something with correct tournament invite. I hope they stay at 20 which I’ve never been in love with anyway but I understand it from a fiscal viewpoint

Figgy you’re correct, I can’t find any conference with more than 11 schools that plays a balanced schedule. 18 wouldn’t be a bad number. You’d play 1/2 the schools home & away then the other half once. Either way I know we don’t want to see any D2/3 games. No upside in playing just to get another home game, last year was almost a disaster.

Agree! No D2/D3 teams. Kean almost scored the greatest win in their school’s history last year. Have we not learned anything from Chaminade beating Virginia? 😁

Thanks for the post Youngalum. I'm guessing 16 games with 8 teams and 1 with 4 teams. Spc91, I remember that well. Sampson et al. A preseason tournament would be great, even if it is 3 years too late.

Looks like young alums info is good. Today’s ledger lists spu vs state u with date tba. Looks like they have Wagner, hot shot Vegas event , seton hall and AT Kennesaw St😳 so far. I guess there’s a reason for that visit but idk what it is

I live 30 minutes from Kennesaw State University, so I will be attending the game. I will probably be the only SPU fan in attendance, so I will try to make a lot of noise. They are not to be taken lightly. In 2010 they upset Georgia Tech 80-63 and made the NCAA Tournament in 2023.

Eport. Sorry for bad syntax. That’s Rutgers vs Kennesaw St. Which is why I don’t get the visit. Usually such a matchup is a home game for the big shots. But hey u can still go and raise a peacock ruckus and maybe unnerve the scarlet boys esp if they play the peacocks prior and we give them a run for the money

Figgyprez, I received my MBA from Rutgers, so I'll still go to the game. At the time of my graduation from SPU they didn't have an MBA program.

When Saint Peter's plays Rutgers I always root for Saint Peter's, they always come first in my mind. Rutgers would be my second tier team to root for in sports.

Siena basketball teams will play unbalanced MAAC schedule next season Saints won't play every league foe twice because of expansion; MAAC to discuss league tournament changes next week
By Mark Singelais, Sports Writer, Albany Times Union May 24, 2024
The Siena men's and women's basketball teams will play an unbalanced Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule next season, when the league expands to 13 teams with the addition of Merrimack and Sacred Heart.
MAAC commissioner Travis Tellitocci said Thursday the athletic directors voted to keep the regular-season schedule at 20 league games, which means Siena will no longer play every MAAC opponent twice. The Saints will face eight league opponents twice and four others once each. There was really not much debate on that," said Tellitocci, who acknowledged increasing the number of MAAC games would have meant fewer nonleague scheduling opportunities.
Tellitocci has said proximity and rivalries (such as Siena-Marist) will be considered when deciding which teams will still play twice. The MAAC also tried an unbalanced schedule from 2017 to 2019, when it reduced from 20 to 18 league games in order to bolster nonleague schedules.
Tellitocci said the MAAC schedule could have more Saturday games to avoid a conflict with NFL games on Sundays. The MAAC typically plays on Fridays and Sundays. The MAAC schedule will come out over the summer, Tellitocci said.
With the regular-schedule taking shape, the MAAC's Committee on Athletic Administration will meet Tuesday to discuss the basketball championships at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City next March. The MAAC is signed with Atlantic City through 2026. With the expansion to 13 teams, Tellitocci said the league will consider a number of proposals, including whether every team should continue to qualify for the tournament. One option, Tellitocci has said, is limiting the tournament to 10 teams in each gender. Another is having play-in games at campus sites before the rounds at Boardwalk Hall. In any case, Tellitocci said the league agreed to have no more than four games in one day at the tournament. In March, Tellitocci called it an "absurdity" the Niagara-Siena men's first-round game didn't end until 1:11 a.m. because it was the sixth and final game of the day. Avoiding that could involve the MAAC lengthening the tournament from five to seven days to allow the men and women to play some games on alternate days, Tellitocci has mentioned.
Tellitocci also wants to move the MAAC men's and women's championship games back to their former spot on a weekday. They now play the title games on a Saturday, the day before Selection Sunday. The MAAC used to play its title games on a Monday night, which allowed almost a week of publicity for the league and its champions leading into the NCAA selection show. Moving the tournament back a week is complicated because the New Jersey high school wrestling championships are held at Boardwalk Hall the previous week. Also, the MAAC has to find a window for ESPN or ESPN2 to broadcast the championship game during the week. "That's an ongoing discussion," Tellitocci said.
