A lot of work to do for our AD. While we felt that Brian Felt was digging us out of the cellar, his foundation was not cemented in. No blame to Paul as yet as Covid has thrown a monkey wrench into any overall improvement. However we are still bringing up the bottom cementing in the 11th place. Men only rose to a tie for 9-10 place while woman a solid 11th. Next year will let us know if Ronnie’s optimism is justified.

I don't think we'll ever be competitive in the Commissioner's Cup and 7th or 8th is probably our ceiling. The main focus should be on men's and women's basketball (both of which have been consistently better under Sha and Mitchell) and hope we have a few outliers in the minor sports such as golf and men's soccer. Realistically the resources just aren't there for us to be competitive in most sports. Outside of baseball and softball, SP still has part-time head coaches competing against a majority of schools that have full time head coaches AND assistants in most sports.

Basically agree with Pride and Peacock.. However, wanted to add a few comments. First, most MAAC schools have not very many "full time" Coach's for the so-called "minor" sports. In Golf, all were "part time " Still made almost double my salary even though, for awhile, we were the dominant Program in the MAAC. THEN when I decided to retire, basically to help Nick Dilio begin a possible Golf Coaching Career, they hired him at 2/3 my Salary although I asked to give him a more reasonable amount. And while Bryan was a very nice guy he didn't help very much and he could have ! All Nick did was to win another MAAC Championship. I believe that was why Nick left as did some of our other successful " part time" Coach's. I knew who the good one's were. Should have been paid properly. Not a very big budget expense.
You should pay Coach's based their performance. Not knocking the status of baseball but they, years ago, went ahead and made that a "full Time" paid position. All they did was lose another 30 games! How stupid!
Not knocking Rachel or even Bryan but the AD is not really responsible for Sports victories and the Commonioners Cup. SP is really not a players first school choice. Don Kennedy made that quite clear in his Video that I recommended. Coach's CAN make a difference especially in recruiting. Sad that the 3rd Assistant Basketball Coach and or the Camera guy was probably making more than some of us were. Guess we had professional pride in doing our job and/or just trying to get a reputation as a successful Coach in order to move on to bigger and better opportunities ( never my desire).
Rachel, will have little to do with individual teams success... sorry about that Ronnie. She has a big job just running the day to day operations of the AD. IMO, our only hope for future success is that our new Athletic Facility will be "classy"enough to attract some outstanding Student Athletes who want to compete for SPU. Time will tell. If I were a Coach that new Facility would help myself and other sports immensely. Let's hope it does. IMO recruiting trumps everything.

Outside of golf, MAAC schools (other than SP) have full-time coaches in pretty much every sport, including the "minor" ones.
SP Baseball hasn't shown much improvement since going full-time (neither has softball), but it's hard to argue that a full-time coach for a sport with 30+ players shouldn't be a priority when determining funding.

Baseball has listed 2 additional Assistant Coach's aside from it's Head Coach. That should be enough to handle 30 plus players. Not that I'm totally against a baseball Head Coach being "full time ". Just that whoever that is needs to produce, especially since one of the Assistants has his job listed as Recruiter. Plenty of money invested already.
As for other MAAC schools I personally know several that have so called part- time Head Coach's for some of their "minor" sports outside of Golf, although never listed as such.... just "Head Coach " Same at SPU So the statement clarifier that "pretty much" every sport is probably the more accurate. What some schools do is give those Coach's not only reasonable pay but give some other income producing assignments within the University or AD. Again, not really a big issue for me what other schools do. No Coach should ever be really considered "part time" and none are listed as such including at SPU. All are listed as "Head Coach". Coaching is a full time commitment and should always be seen that way.
If anything is part of the AD's job it's to allocate adequate funds to the various Sports given the limited Budget....or drop the Sport ( see Tennis ). Problem is that there becomes the issue of NCAA requirements to remain a D1 school....not easy to navigate both.

Coach Oldtimer, good to hear from you again sir. I would assume that part time coaches etc are cheaper for the universities in terms of benefits and so forth. I agree with you you, coaching is a full time commitment. The old adage, "you get what you pay for" is true.... most of the time. Go Peacocks!

There are very few part-time coaches in the MAAC. Looking at the schools closest to us in athletic budget (Niagara, Canisius, Rider, Manhattan, and Iona) there are only four part time head coaches in sports other than golf- Manhattan’s rowing coach, Rider and Niagara’s tennis coaches, and Rider’s field hockey coach. None of those are sports SP sponsors.
