It appears SPU is attempting to get in the TBT which will be televised on ESPN. They are assembling players and three have been announced on Peacocknation. Not sure if it is an official school program or not or what criteria exists for entry. Iona was in one two years ago. It’s a winner take all for 1 mil. Any info would be appreciated.

I've watched some of the tournament the last few years as there's been some former MAAC players on various teams. I don't believe there's any official connection to the University. If I remember correctly, last year's event was one of the first sporting events to get started after Covid and there were a lot less teams than normal. This year, it looks like they'll be back to taking 64 teams. I thought there was a fan voting component to selecting the teams in the past, but according to the website it seems like it's pretty much up to the tournament to decide who gets in. From their website:
"Team Selection. After determining which Teams are eligible to participate in the Tournament, whether a Team makes the final cut to be in the Tournament is in Producer’s sole discretion. As a guide to applicants, in making such determinations, Producer will consider, among other factors, the following: (i) the content and completeness of the applications of each of the Team’s Participants; (ii) the Team’s satisfactory completion of the registration process; (iii) the level of basketball talent a Team possesses including, without limitation, the highest level of play for each Player on a Team (i.e., high school, collegiate, professional, etc.); and (iv) other criteria that Producer deems important to the integrity, competition, production and/or telecast of the Tournament, including certain criteria that Producer will publish and make available to applicants."
According to the Twitter account they set up (@peacocknation), Tyler Gaskins, Desi Washington, and Chazz Patterson will be playing. The TBT website also lists Burke, Welton, Idowu, and Ndiaye.

To this date, 73 teams have applied for the 64 spaces. Complicating the selection is that teams applied to specific site. The Alumni team applied to West Virginia where there is approximately 7 more teams that applied. In addition the West Virginia has 8 of the 26 alumni teams applying tournament wide. Columbus has 10 of the 26 alumni teams which leaves 8 alumni teams over the other two regions. Just makes it complicated for our team to get in.
Also why no Keydren Clark. And I know he would be interested.

Glad to see some of our former players at least staying in touch with each other. Previously mentioned that many of those same players often came back to Yanatelli to see games and say hello to JD. A nice touch for any Coach to see. Wins and losses are obviously important in evaluating a Coach but things like coming back say a lot for the type of Program any Coach runs.
Remembering some of the players. One or two I remember quite well. Tyler Gaskins, to me, had plenty of superior skills. Remember watching him in pick up games prior to playing and I thought he was an outstanding talent. Eventually took a back seat to the established star Desi but Tyler was a good one. Understand that he performed so well in various venues after graduation that he signed a contract to play in Europe. Chris Burke was the original Mr. Intangible as Loyal remembers. Super nice kid who last time I saw him was a father. Still involved with basketball. Chazz who surpassed Chris' defensive abilities should have been a 2 yr. Defensive Player of the Year. A pleasure to watch play....same for the others who chose to stay in basketball one way or the other.
