I'm sure that our Athletic website and our outstanding SID, Dave Musil, will have more to report on the upcoming Regional.. First of all I'm not disappointed in our seeding. My take is that the Northeastern teams are always ranked lower than they deserve to be. Nor does it bother me that 10 of the 14 teams entered are ranked top sixty or lower. Northern teams are just mis-rated. Last year at the Rich Harvest Farms course outside Chicago we played directly behind Illinois. They finished ahead of us handly but their coach Mike Small complimented our players. In my mind there was only one or two shots different per player. Add that up over 3 rounds and it makes the difference between players seem great. It's really not. Illinois this year is ranked between #1 & #3 in the country. At the MAAC Conference Championships we had two players ( Brian Grubbs and Nick Dilio ) each have 4 under par round. How many college players could do better....not many! The difference is consistency i.e. the ability to do something like that every time out. We lack that but have improved on every year. Hence our lopsided victory at MAAC's.
We've played the Yale course before ( Brian and Eric) and we played well. In fact TJ Summigray a fine player who graduated 2 years ago scored an eagle 2 at Yale. Bottom line is that we are going into the event confident in our ability. Goal is to make top 5 and move on to the finals. Let's see
Good news...one of next years recruits JD Moore had an excellent Tournament and top ten finish at the prestigious Liberty National Invitational over the weekend. My current team and myself were there to support him. No doubt that he will be an impact player in the Conference next year. I am also close to signing another outstanding player. Announcement will be on the Athletic Website in a few weeks. Things keep looking up for the Program.

I,ve played the course at Yale O/T. It's a beautiful old time layout as i recall designed by one of the old masters A.W.Tillinghast as i recall. He was the premier course designer of his day as i recall he was the original designer of Hollywood GC in Deal one of finest in NJ.One i've also played and very tough as well. My big memory of the round at Yale was getting a par on a par 3 i think its number 9 or 10 can't recall with a great up and down after flying over the green on the drive. Beautiful hole teeing off on top of a ridge down to two tier green. The course has been closed in by development over the years around it but it still a beautiful old lady. Will be looking forward to trying to follow some of the action if its on ESPN 3.

spcfan...I remember that par 3 well. If my boys can par that hole, as you did, they would gain 1/2 shot on the field ! Tillinghast also designed Winged Foot but claimed that Ridgewood CC was his best design. Winged Foot got the glory by hosting several US Opens but Ridgewood was and is a great golf course.

Before we head up to Yale on Tuesday ( Tournament begins Thursday ) I wanted to give our loyal supporters a heads up on our thinking and prospects. First, it's been the team practice to meet every night before the next day's round to discuss our approach to the various tournaments including course layout, the various holes and strategy. Part of the reason, I believe , for our success this Spring has been these meetings. While I get the final say ( partially kidding ) it's always great to go around the room and hear various opinions and suggestions.
No doubt our overall strategy will be to be extra aggressive yet, hopefully , smart. Northeastern teams are usually at a disadvantage, not talent wise, but in the inability to play year round. The MAAC, NEC, Patriot League, Atlantic 10 etc. usually are seeded last and finish at the bottom of the pack. That is not our intention! We know that we have the talent to play with anyone on any given day. What I am hoping for is that we compete well.
A hint on interpreting our play. Watch how our individuals perform and not be influenced, although important, by total team scores. If each of the #1 teams players only beat my individuals by 2/3 shots per round that would translate into a 24/36 shot margin of victory over the entire tournament. Seems like a lot...but not really. That said, we are going to Yale conceding nothing. As posted previously, let me see how many other college golfers can post rounds of 4 under par as Brian and Nick did at Magnolia ( Conference Championship course ).
Our goal is obviously to show what we can do and to make the top 5, moving on to the NCAA finals. We have some very good players and I know that.
PS The Eastern Florida team coached by my friend Jamie Howell is now the #1 ranked Junior College Team in the country and heads to their National Championship venue next week. They have already won seven in their history. We competed well against them during Spring Training and actually bested them two years ago. Wish them good luck.

After the first two rounds, the team was sitting in 14th place. Don't know how they did today.

Team still 14th and 28 strokes behind the 13th team Robert Morris. Looks like a last place finish for our boys unless something drastic happens tomorrow in the final round.

Just got back from Yale and wanted to thank all Peacock fans who supported us. The guys, who are a very competitive group of guys, were disappointed in their results but not in their play. Played OK but just couldn't put a few scores together. Best example was day#2 when Eric shot his 69. Both Brian and Nick shot a reasonable, but not great 75. Problem was that both of their scores should have been a lot better if each did not have a triple bogey on their score card. Two pretty good rounds mared by 1 bad hole each...that's just golf.
Even with that the team total for day#2 was 294, three shots on the day behind Ohio State for the day and similar to our dominating scores at MAAC's. By the way the MAAC Champion ( beat Nick in a playoff ) from Iona played about the same as all my guys....nothing special.
Finally, our last round was our only really poor round. I'll take responsibility for that. In our pre-nightly team meeting we really didn't talk golf or strategy but rather how the team has bonded together ( closest team in the MAAC, by far ) and how we'll miss our three graduating Seniors. Think we were golfed out.
Good news is that we'll be as good or better next year with some outstanding recruits that you will read about soon. See everyone in basketball season. Thanks again, the boys really appreciated all your good wishes.
