As the Athletic site posted the Team won the Peacock Invitational on Tuesday. Brian Grubbs was also the individual winner. Been a great couple of weeks for our Team. Not only did we play well at the Towson Invitational ( 11/23 ) with #34 Arkansas and other top teams in the field, won the Layayete Tournament (1/16), finished 3rd in the UConn 'Till Duty is Done Event ( 3/17 ) and capped it off by winning our own Peacock Invitational ( 1/11) with four other MAAC Teams in the field, which included St. John's. A great couple of weeks for the guys. Today we end our Season at the Monmouth Invitational against four other MAAC opponents....Monmouth, Iona, Fairfield and Manhattan. Will not bring the entire starting team ( exams ) but still hope to compete well. Both Monmouth, Fairfield and even Iona are serious opponents. Yet we are 13-0 overall against MAAC opponents this Spring.
Next week we leave for the MAAC Championship @ Disney ( Magnolia course) which will have substantial coverage by ESPN 3. The current team attitude, I would describe as workaholic. The players know that only a very few strokes seperate the top 4/5 teams. The teams I am most concerned about are Fairfield and Monmouth. Interesting to see how both will perform today. Fairfield, in particular, will have a chip on their shoulder as while voted #1 in the Conference, we have defeated them five straight times including last Fall. Fairfield has a nice bunch of guys who always come over to greet me and shake hands. On my part, I like those guys (personality wise) but I keep telling them how good they are. Perhaps a little bit of reverse psychology!
As for the Championship, anything can happen but we are of the attitude that we are the team to beat. We have proven that. Yet the top teams are very close in ability. Why have we been so successful this Spring? IMO we have outworked everyone, are level headed with no big egos, realize that in a 3 day compitition anything can happen but are quietly confident in our ability.
Will not post until after the Championship. All I can say, right now, is that we are ready. Thanks for your interest and support.
