"Good base" may be pushing it as there is very little scoring punch here. We will need to find some "hidden gems" if we are to make any impact in MAAC.

Correction:
There is NO scoring punch. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
Wyche is good, Q is average, all others are very poor defensively.
Barring a two transfer miracle, "the ship be sinkin".
We have to hope immediate playing time outweighs a leaky roof and a deliberate style. Fingers crossed.

Couldn't be left with a more impotent cast of shooters.

Let's not think negatives. Some of our returners showed some flashes of scoring. I got to talk to a couple players after the few games I made, they alluded to most of the offense was run through Desi and Marvin as the main options, I can understand they were the go to guys. With that said, now we may see how productive some of the others can be. Who knows, I am looking to the positive. Question, can we still run the same type of offense as our cast has changed, Wyche good at pushing and transition, some scoring. Chazz showed scoring flashes, Hawkins showed some upside, Q when healthy, who knows. Just naming a few, IMO we have a decent core. Let's not count them out

Objectively and statistically, this projects to be the least effective group of returning players since before Keydren Clark set foot on the Yanitelli hardwood.
They are challenged defensively except for Wyche and are poor to abysmal shooters....across the board.
It's not a question of "positive" or "negative".....it's factual.

The two players who have a long way to go but still have some significant upside are Hawkins and Boone. It's my hope both take a big step up next year and can become functional MAAC rotation players (and maybe more?). If both work very hard, IMO, the ability is there.
The challenge this roster has is that even if that happens, there is not one shooter on the roster who has to be guarded 15 feet from the basket. Think about that, preferably with a drink in hand.
That limitation gives opposing defenses the ability to clog the middle and no matter how Boone and Hawkins improve and may be able to create, they'll be no room for our guys to operate.
The Jaspers had two guards who could not shoot from 15 feet and won the MAAC. Issue is, the other three players were Pankey, Andujar and Reynolds. No one of that ability level populates the SPU roster. Good grief, Masiello will hold us in the 30's, given status quo.
Our staff needs to recruit at least three above average shooters. I can't remember a year we need to accomplish so much in the Spring period just to have a chance to be representative. I am sure our staff is working very hard; hoping for results!

Well let us hope the players skills and weaknesses are worked on in offseason. Chazz I think can become more of a shooting threat, he just has to stop hesitating and double clutching and shoot, when he did that he was able to score. Wyche in HS was a decent/solid scorer ay the rim, he has done that, I also remember he had a decent shot, he has hit some shots but he needs some work on the form, higher release, etc but I think he can become more effective, also he is solid getting to rim. Boone and Hawkins I have hopes they will improve offseason. Heard many are working on their game already
