It was only one game but it was not a good one . Tough to win when Marv gets outplayed on both ends of the floor . He took some bad threes early in game . It is a worry that Desi hurt his hand in second half . He came back into the game but went out again and did not play the last five or six minutes . Some good news - Quadir played really well in limited minutes -16 points and seven rebounds . He has really nice moves and touch around the hoop , helps offense to move the ball and battles . Limited minutes came from 2 fouls in first half rather than any problem with knee , I believe though at times did look a touch slower than last season . Hopefully , that is just regaining wind from time off because we will need him for the good season .
Good news was that Chazz , Travis , Elisha all got some minutes under their belts . Chazz had some good moments , and I believe made two jumpers . Travis drilled his first three in first half and actually made second one right after that but second was ruled off for illegal screen . He missed four subsequent attempts but he has quick release , good form and apparently shooters mentality . I think he has good career for us .
We got beaten badly when we we tried going zone . Hopefully , better effort Sunday .

Agree with only one game comment. Not best game for Marvin or Wyche.. Desi just getting hot when he hurt two small fingers on shooting hand.Defense perked up only in traps after we were 20 down. Q was excellent and will be better when he getsin better shape. Another tough road game at Hartford Sunday. They are picked second in their conference ahead of Vermont and Albany. My guess is Desi will be sidelined.

Q's game encouraging. We know MD will deliver, as will Desi Marvin matchup went the wrong way for sure. PG was forecast as Bear weakness, but Wycher stats were poor. Will defer as to why.....Cindy? Nothing of note from the SF spot......... Bottom line is an average to below average defensive club will need to score more than 58 points to win most games. Sayonara!

A loss is a loss but very encouraged by Q's performance given that he his not yet in full game shape. Potential to be a dominant player. As loyal posted, not worried about Marvin. If Desi doesn't play Sunday ( who knows) Chazz could be given an opportunity off his performance tonight. The experiment with finding the "right" mix will most likely continue for the early part of the Season...a lot of unanswered questions.

Watched game. Saw ball movement. First half Desi needs to be ready to shoot, hope he is ok. Marvin had tough out but he'll be fine. Q looked good, will be even better when 100%, didn't seem like knee too much bother. Wyche had floater and nice pull up jumper, hope he can nail some perimeter shots but he sat 2nd half, don't believe any turnovers, not sure of reason, but that is why stats low. Fields played a steady game. Hester looked like he could help. Chazz getting sea legs. Sure things will gel. Hope better Sunday

Dennis got lots of love from pre season observers, but looks like a DNP.
Injury?

Game was deja vu, as was Dennis handling. No injury.

Can you explain to us what you know about the Dennis handling? How it affected the outcome? Aside from overall poor shooting, might want to also attribute to Marvin playing too much outside when we need his talents inside.

Will not critique much in game I did not see, but from anecdotal evidence, this is a bad omen. Statistically Q scores, we're even on boards yet we take 26 3's and make 6. Not very logical. TO/Asst ratio is 2:1. Give up 30fts and take only 12. In fact point difference in game was the 12 ft differential, but that's an all too familiar story. I don't have much patience for the mix argument when 4 of 5 starters return. Frankly we should hit the ground running and we tripped instead. Brown may be very good- time will tell- but lack of familiarity with each other is not a reason for me. Also check results of future opponents: good performance from Fairfield, Marist, FDU, Cornell, Princeton(vRider)Iona, Monmouth, Quinny. Fortunately(maybe) Hartford had a stinker vSacred Heart. This should not be a year where we have to come on late to be respectable, with what came back we should be pretty good from the get go and not have to reinvent the wheel every season

Aside from overall poor shooting, might want to also attribute to Marvin playing too much outside when we need his talents inside. Your second comment seems to be a veiled comment on the coach, but since you talk in tongues, I'll let you explain it away. The history of stupid discipline with Dunne is well documented with many having inherited his doghouse. Possibly he should bench Marvin for wandering too much. As far as the outcome goes, as you implied, Dunne couldn't direct his stud. Might also recall the lack of offensive creativity. As for the game, you can't make a decision. Unless you act like those last year who thought we were going to a decent offensive team, due to the performance in the loss to LIU in the opening game last season. A loss is not important, but when you perform like crap against a mid level team in an inferior conference you do have worry. Lets see what Hartford brings.

Let's make it simple for the single minded who seek to serve an agenda. We had trouble putting the ball in the basket. The shots were there, but shooting 22-61 and 23% from 3 will not get it done. Maybe you should argue for a coach that teaches shooting.
Only one game, let's see what Sunday brings.

SPU had 61 FGA's versus Brown's 41 and we managed to lose by 12 points.....just couldn't put the ball in the ocean.

Hartford game just ended...another loss. Disagree with my friend figgy on finding a mix. My reasons:
1) Returning 4/5 starters meant little to me as I never thought those guys were that good ( unless Welton took a big step forward and we got production out of the #3 spot). Given what we had comming back I saw us little better than mid-tier. The MAAC coaches had it about right.
2) Never about "learning to play together" but who of the newbees plus Gaskins and Chazz would step up. That takes experimentation.
3) Not to say that the experimentation will bring the desired results but if they don't we will be a mid-tier MAAC team.
4) Questions like who is to play the #3 Gaskins/Boone or Dennis as well as who will back-up Desi need to be answered.
5) Add to that our players are average or below average defensively ( individually ) so JD has to play more zone. Notice how much zone he had to play these last two games.
6) So while part of me agrees with figgy's overall analysis, it will take time to find who the contributors will be....we just don't know yet.
7) Regarding Dennis, I have no idea why he didn't see playing time except that I was told by JD that his initial substitution pattern would be ( at least for the first few games ) Wyche/Fields, Gaskins/ Boone ( with Gaskins also able to shift to #2) and Desi/Chazz. Apparantly by his pre-season play Chazz earned the minutes over Dennis. That could change but that was the initial plan and had little to do with "doghouse". Chazz was going to get the minutes.
8) Finally, I prefer the word "benching" to 'Doghouse". Often doing that has a positive result. How about "benching" Jeron midway through our Championship Season. Returned to the starting lineup a different player and eventually MAAC, MVP. Tell me that that move didn't have a very positive outcome. Again, no idea about Dennis except that I do know that Chazz, by his preseason play, did move up the depth chart ahead on Dennis.
9) So yes, figgy, a lot of experimentation needs to be done. Not to find the right mix but to see who can step up to make us a better team. Having that happen will be an open question. Otherwise, mid-tier.
