Quadir Weldon was injured in practice yesterday, diagnosed as a severe meniscus tear to his knee. Will miss some practice time and likely will not get the work in to be in game condition for the start of the season. Plan is to try to have him play through the injury, with surgery to follow at season's end. Unfortunate, since Staff viewed Q as enjoying the biggest upside from last season.

Galt's reporting is accurate although not sure what the injury was. At practice today and saw Q with a brace. He did not participate although in practice gear. Understand that the injury was last week and the extent and rehabilitation prospects are still unknown. So a lot of what we will hear will just be speculation. JD feels that Q was ready to break out this Season after having an outstanding Summer and having bulked up substantially. Concern is how much this set back has hurt Q's progress. At this point, no one knows so disregard any additional rumors.
Regarding practice, Tyler Gaskins was working with the starting unit as he has looked pretty good to date. Denis and Boone were spoken of highly and should see plenty of time. However, they are still getting familiar with the system. Elias looks especially muscular and, of course, is working with the first unit. Team looks upbeat and focused....good sign.

If Quadir has a SEVERE meniscus tear to his knee he would be in the hospital, not walking around in the gym with a knee brace in practice gear. This is news for me, so I don't have any facts, but sounds like he may avoid surgery. I'm not a doctor, but severe meniscus tears take from 4 to 6 months to heal.....I know this from personal experience. Lets hope and pray for the best.

Pretty sure that it was not a meniscus tear but is a fairly serious injury ( no surgery necessary ) and will cost Q some valuable preparation time prior to Season. I know little else and will not/ cannot comment, as a Coach, on injuries on other SP teams. Let's hope for the best.

Next to Marvin, Q is the most indispensable Peacock. His strength (rebounding, inside "D") is in short supply (absent?) elsewhere on this roster., based on past performances.
We have to hope Q can play this season at cliose to peak form....even if it takes until January to do so.
Fingers crossed.

loyal....only the doctors and rehabilitation process can give us answers. The hope is to be ready by opening day. The concern is how much practice time has been lost and what effects will this unfortunate occurence have. Let's hope for a speedy recovery and the best.

I have no idea about the extent of Quadir's injury but I hope that he , JD and the medical staff do what is best for him and therefore the program IN THE LONG RUN . Have to guess that Quadir really wants to play as soon as possible and would surely hate to miss the season given how big a chance this team has to win the MAAC this year with him . His joy of playing the game reminds me so much of the way that Ryan Bacon , one of my favorite Peacocks over 60 years of rooting , approached the game . The timing of this unfortunate injury seems so eerily similar to when Wes Jenkins went through the serious preseason injury a few years ago . Wes wanted to go out with the players that he started with and did giving us a MAAC championship with a courageous performance - remember that scary time later in the season when he went down in a heap going for a rebound in the game at Bingamton . Now Quadir is only a soph but I am certain would like to maximize the chances that our six seniors leave with a MAAC championship .
After counting down the days in this long offseason and being old as I am , I also would love to see Quadir on the court as soon as possible . But still have to hope that all involved err on the side of caution in making a tough decision .
