Sorry for how tardy this notice is but MAAC's women's basketball preview on ESPN 3 AT 7:00 tonite . I believe format is interview with all 11 MAAC head coaches . Let's all support the 14-15 edition of our gals' squad .
Men's show is tomorrow at same time . I assume both will be archived for at least month for those who do not get opportunity to see live .

Coyle was not that informative but was confident they are improved. Will still be rated 11th in pre-season.. Did say that we had 4 freshman but did not name them.. I know two of them and did know a third but lost the name. No idea on the fourth. Roster should be up soon. One all state from Ohio, a highly regarded girl for Phil area. I believe the third was from the NY area but lost info. No need for the names as they will be up soon.

Just a reminder that men's show is tonite at 7 . Pat was good contributor on show overall but I hope that JD is more forthcoming with comments on players . I think players want and deserve mention .

You might be thinking of Jariah Johnson, 5-8 SG guard who graduated from Douglass Academy in NYC and played for Wadleigh High. Was rated one of the top guards entering high school but a torn ACL and further complications forced many to lose interest. Had solid Junior and Senior years and, given our current circumstances, was decided well worth the gamble. Is an excellent student and thus may qualify for an academic scholarship. Not much on paper for optimism, big girl is a project and the other perimeter players will have little impact to begin. Transfer and R/S Soph, Martinez, is probably Patti's best hope.

Coyle inherited a mess and received a free pass last year. This year she gets a half pass, but we should expect some significant progress. If things don't improve there's reason for concern. The following year, I expect us to be contenders....... three years is enough to rebuild a program and I've seen it done in less time.

Referring to the new recruits. Bethea might be the best. Despite her good size, projects as more of a wing/sf, at this level. Was talking about the center as the project. Don't remember the name.

Agree on Bethea. I referenced OH above when I meant CT. Velles made first team All State and looks decent. Never knew the name of the center. Also remember, Senatus who was getting minutes before she got hurt, will be healthy. The real question, do they rise from 11. How far up will be the measure.

One frosh recruit is from down at the Jersey Shore. Met her Dad on a NJ Transit train.......he had great things to say about Coyle, for what that is worth.
We are lucky to have Coyle....the urban equivalent of Norman Dale winding up at Hickory. I'd be surprised not to see significant improvement this season.
Womens Roster is not up yet on the SPU Athletic site.

Women's roster up. Not sure what happened to the incoming center Coyle mentioned in the round table nor Jariah Johnson who I was told committed to and was headed our way this year. On paper, not much to talk about other than some diversity has been reintroduced.

Also I saw an article that Johnson had committed to us. where did you see the roster.

Johnson's social media info lists her as SPU 2018.

finally got it. Coyle mentioned 4 freshman. And I do count 4 freshman. Only additional note I can make is that there only 14 ships accounted for and Johnson may be redshited and just not listed. Perfect question for the insider.

You may have provided the answer before. She is all over SPU orientation photos. She may well be on an academic ship and can not be listed until tryouts. Not sure why but one never knows with SPU.

"diversity re-introduced"?
I sense NBA ownership potential.
