It has been reported that Elisha Boone has signed. Now we wait on eligibility.

Thanks for post that at least is hopeful that the biggest hurdle is behind us . It would mean that we have very solid core of a team to staying very competitive for extended period and to recruit around thru the next three seasons . That is a plus in being a little more choosy in recruiting . Eligibility this season would assure that no team enters this MAAC season in a stronger position than Peacocks .

Three questions:
1. When will EB's eligibility become known? June? August? 2. Will EB come to SPU if he has to sit a year, a la Leon, Tucker, etc? 3. How will waiting (which appears the right course, considering EB's upside) impact the balance of our recruiting? (perimeter scorer vs. true front line player).

Only the Shadow knows on the first two. However anyone who has watched this team realizes they need a player that actually can score, regardless of position.

That is good news for the Peacocks.....for the next four years.
This coming season, if EB can contribute (score and pass) from the small forward position, the SPU offense can take a big step forward (no pun intended).
Many of the web "scouting" services indicate EB will be able to contribute right away. It's difficult for frosh to make a significant contribution in D1. The good news is EB need only be a contributor, not an immediate star, to make the Peacocks a better team.

Think a few things will make us a better team
1) First and foremost the experience of Dominique, Desi, Q,and Wyche, will be the main key.Add Desport and Fields, pretty good team! Dominique, to me, is the most talented player in the league, Desi is Desi...like his competitive instincts. Hopefully Q and Wyche will take that next step forward. That opened ended question may well be the key to our Season. Desport, to me, is both young and underated. Could be a pleasant surprise. If not, very solid back-up.
2) Regarding Hawkins, I've heard, but not seen, that he is outstanding. Should be more of an impact than Boone.
3) Too early to make judgements on Boone especially since we ( make that I ) do not know of his eligability status. However, if eligible he has some big shoes to fill in Chris Burke. We lose an awful lot in Chris Burke...terrific guy in clubhouse and team chemistry ( don't underestimate that ), one of our best defensive players ever, outstanding rebounder from the #3 position and even though all of us wanted him to score more ( make that shoot more ) CB was quite an asset at the #3. I hope Boone becomes eligible and fills a hole at #3 that many of us are overlooking.
4) JD knows that he has some very good pieces. Now, as he said, it's his job to fit them together.

Very encouraging tidbit about Hawkins. Had not heard anything about his ability. I trust your source was not Mrs. Hawkins :-)
Look forward to your post-cruise analysis of all the newbies when you are back in JC.
Think we all agree Q and Wyche need to take the quintessential freshman to sophomore step forward if SPU potential is to be realized. Both had encouraging frosh seasons. I am optimistic both will be a lot better this season.
Burke was a player to cheer for....always gave 110% and really put it all together during the second half of his senior season. I think CB's defense of the opponents best forward will be missed the most.
If Boone, Hawkins and the two JC's can score, our team will go at least 9 deep....maybe even deeper. If so, I anticipate a bit more up-tempo pace, simply because (on paper) we'll have more guys who can finish and be fresher than the average MAAC squad. We should not be as dependent on Desi being "on", which is a good thing.
OT, get ready to hit the treadmill right after the cruise. Over/under on weight gain is 6 lbs.

I am extremely optimistic that this team will be deeper when we're talking about Patterson , Gaskins and Rolle . Can't wait to see a bigger and stronger Chazz . And if he has improved his shooting , I would expect him to be right in the mix for those tough to get minutes at the three spot given the defensive potential that we have seen from him . Peacocks couldn't ask for a better teammate than Tyler , and he is eligble for a significant jump in his second Div One season . Kris showed us in that end of the season game his value as a rebounder when we need it .
If Desi being Desi means giving us Peacock fans probably the greatest season ever , in college hoops , in game winning three pointers , I guess we'll take him . Marvin must improve his ball handling and decision making , but he showed us his talent and toughness in his first Peacock season : no better power foward going into the MAAC season . My favorite position to watch in college basketball is the pure point guard , and despite the number of young good ones in the MAAC this season no other team has a better one in terms of talent , smarts and toughness than Trevis . And the player that I look foward to seeing the most , Welton ; a bigger stronger and more mature Quadir would be about all you would want in a MAAC center on both ends of the floor . Desport showed us a big jump in his soph season , and he is capable of doing so many things on the court for a team .
These guys are enough to make us a top tier MAAC team . One wild card to making us the top team are - given the three point game that college hoops is now- for Hester or Dennis to be the long range jumpshooters that they were in JC in their first season in Div One . Would it not be fun if they both are ? Another for the heart of the MAAC season is for Hawkins to take advantage of his size and athleticism to give us as strong depth at the 4/5 slots as any MAAC team . I am not sure that Elisha will play this season , just heard it from a good source . But having a player good enough to make a top 100 camp , is something to look very foward to for a Peacock fanatic .
Now , some will say this is Pollyanna . Others might say it is the type stuff we hear from fans of other MAAC teams . No problem . Realism in offseason is for coaches , players and experts . No team gets it done on paper . Injuries happen . School problems happen . Great kids can do stupid things . Minutes could be a problem . Every player worth his salt wants to be on the court every minute . The best ones play as hard as they can every second they do get on the court . Coaches must find the best fit . But I think this team is as good a Peacock team entering the season as we have seen in many years . No question that we will get tested by the other MAAC top tier teams - Iona , Manhattan and Quinny ( if Drame is healthy ) . Siena and Monmouth could well edge into the top tier if any of the top four falter . But I like this edition of the Peacocks to do something special .
JD and staff deserve a helluva lot of credit for bringing together a group of talented and , more importantly , quality guys .

I am not sure that Elisha will play this season , just heard it from a good source . Most operative piece in your post. I assume you heard he would be playing, but don't know for a fact. Depends on nature of the source.

How about we try.....
He will be in school.
He will not play.
Should know by 2nd week of August but nothing certain, given NCAA history.

Forgot to mention Chazz and Ty....thanks junctionkid. Chazz, as mentioned, is an outstanding defensive player. Has offensive capabilities but as a Frosh was a bit reluctant. Chazz did participate in the teams practice sessions last season. I liked what I saw but the opened ended question, as with any player, is if he can bring it to game time. Similar to Ty in that he can play #2 or #3.
Ty Gaskins...love his shot and the fact that he can take his man off the dribble. Had sort of a disappointing season last year and he will have to earn his minutes but he has "potential" written all over him.
