Disappointing performance today by our Golf Team at the Peacock Invitational. Some adjustments need to be made before Friday. Allowed several MAAC teams to finish ahead of us. No excuses as your score tells you how you played. Need to get better production out of our #4 and #5 players who are Freshman and Sophomores respectively. Actually my #4 player Dominic Diaz has had a very good Fall and Spring season. Just needs to be a bit more consistent. Same for Brian Grubbs ( #3 ) who just won the Monmouth Invitational.
On the plus side my #1 and #2 guys played well. Have to consider both as top five players in the MAAC. Actually, Nick Dilio was one under par with four holes to play. Then some bad/unlucky things happened and Nick finished with a 75. That said, Nick is my one player who is usually unflappable. IMO, should be one of the favorites to win it all at MAAC's
We'll see how things play out at MAAC's. Again, just wanted to thank our posters for their kind words and support

O/T - Look forward to seeing you in prime time this Sunday. As you say, both Brian and Dominic have to show more consistency. Especially Brian who excelled under more challenging conditions/ course at Monmouth.
Bring us back a championship this weekend.

Thanks JG...blame our performance on coaches decision. I played Eric, Nick, Brian, Dom and Steve as our team. Played Brandon Molson an individual entrant and, of course, Brandon fired our best round of the day! As the recap states had I placed Brandon on our top 5 we would have finished ahead of bot Monmouth and Fairfield.
Looking forward I believe that Eric, Nick and Brian form the best trio in the MAAC. In fact, I believe that any of the three could win the Tournament individually. Especially Nick who has been playing great all year. Last Summer Nick finished 7th in the NYS Amateur and 3rd in the Met Publinx, both very prestigious Events. He and Eric are certainly every bit as good as any player in the MAAC.
Bottom line is that the Team is anxious and ready to go.

Backhanded compliment? The latest Team rankings of GolfStat came out today. St. Peter's was ranked #1 in our Conference followed closely behind by Monmouth and Canisius. Rider who had a great Peacock Invitational Tournament is the "hot" team in the MAAC.
My take...nice to be ranked #1 but anyone of several teams can win. It's that close. With us losing one player (ineligible) we need to, as JG stated, to put it all together. Practice round Thursday. Tournament begins Friday, ends Sunday.
All that said, I like our chances.

O/T - I know you preach often, but the kids have to focus on course management. Stay within themselves, don't look to make that spectacular shot. Play to par. Manage the game. A three day event so the key will be to avoid the bad hole.
Really haven't added anything; just playing the sports psychologist.
Best of luck.

Thanks JG....good advice. Our team is very good at that. As you say, been preaching that since I became Coach. As posted on a different thread thought we were the "smartest" team re: course management in almost every Tournament we played in this year. Similar to a basketball pre-game run through we use the practice day to run through the strategy for each hole. One size doesn't always fit all but atleast everyone has an idea of what they want to do.
Bottom line is that we still have to perform. Thanks all for the good wishes.

Finished 2nd round in 1st, 2 up on Monmouth despite some difficulty on tough last few holes. Remarkable turnaround for Grubbs who shot par today after finishing 9 over on Friday.

Now up by 7 with 1 to 4 holes to go. Key to the lead has been the solid play of all of our top 4 guys. Each with at least one solid round has allowed us to remain consistent as a team throughout the tourney.
