Iona plays no defense, but shooting well from 3. Gaels up 4 with six to go.

Gaels 42-29 at the half. Game was tight until last 5 minutes of the first half when we the Gaels changed the tempo back to uptempo offense their forte

SPU down 13 @ the half. No answer for Laury underneath and almost every one of Iona's complimentary players would start for us. Nice half for Burke. Darius "invisible", per Ingles....3 points, 1 rebound, 2 fouls. 2-5 from the line. Desi with a few threes, but not shooting well. Chazz with a couple of ugly, shot put type three point attempts.....zero rotation. Tucker too small, shots easily blocked inside. Overmatched tonight.

Worth noting Ffrench had 16 in a 90-71 loss. Iona's backup perimeter players looked fantastic tonight. Burke had a nice overall game. Otherwise, in a nutshell, Iona sliced us up by shooting 13-19 from beyond the arc and dominated inside whenever Laury was in the game. Laury gives the Gaels a shot at winning 3 games in three nights....even if they do not shoot well from deep in one or two of the games. Miller Time.

I thought we played pretty well overall especially Burke and Ffrench. Iona shot lights out from 3 and we were essentially overmatched personnel wise.Gaels had 7 different players make three point shots.

Chris had very good game. Raymond with seven assists only guy who makes our half court sets do anything . OTherwise little but some flashes from Chazz. A'll those threes rained on us yet we fouled on three other trey attempts. Something drastically wrong with that.

Iona's defense makes a lot of players look good. but hopefully Ffrench and Burke can build on tonight's individual performances. I thought our entire frontcourt played terrible against an Iona team that often times played four guys under 6'5 alonside Laury....not that we play any guys over 6'6 at all, but still disappointing.
The difference in tonight's game (and our season IMO) is that Iona has guards and small forwards that can all shoot from the perimeter. Yes, they shot a very high perecentage from 3 but that's because they have the talent to do so. When Desi struggles like he has been (he was getting looks and some of his misses were WAY off), we have no player that opposing teams fear outside 18 feet.

Until Desi gets back on track ,team will struggle . When our "shooter " is 2-10 we are in trouble. Not only should he not be mentioned in the same breath as Keekee, right now not even with Nick Leon. What is worrisome is many of his misses are not even close. We know he's better than this. I hope he can shake it. Chris Burke looks so much more confident leading me to believe than more games like this will follow. Kudos on his first double-double. Hard to beat a team that shoots 63% on threes ...even better than their 58% for the game.

Loyal...thanks for the shout out on Chris Burke. I'll talk about him later. First, not mentioned yet was Ferguson...2/2, 1/1 from the 3 and didn't look bad defensively. True it was garbage time but the guy can flat out shoot. Hangs around the perimeter but, so what. He can put points on the board.
Re: Chris Burke. Was at the game with Cindy and Chris is everything I said he was. The not so intangibles...10 boards, 3 assists and a team leading 2 blocks and two steals. Just an outstanding athlete with great instincts and a nose from for the ball. And, oh yes, when Iona pressured full court it was Blaise and Chris who handled without a turnover.
Now for next year. Loyal is correct when he says we need shooters and scorers. I REALLY hope that Chris begins to realize how good a player he is and how much better he could be. Could easily give us 15 a night IF he shoots more. Everybody misses and Chris has had his "off" nights but he doesn't shoot enough. Content to be a team player....9 shots tonight?? Needs to take a minimum of 12 per game.
Right now we have no prospect shooter at #3 except for Wyche (at point) and he'll be a Freshman. Unless things change we will need Chris to shoot more and be a consistent scorer as peacockblue pointed out. But how can you be a consistent scorer when you only take 6/7 shots per game on average?
In any event, Chris will be a most valuable asset. Can play the #3 or #4, start or come off the bench if we land someone wonderful ( sort of doubt it ). For myself, how good Chris can be is totally up to him and his own mindset. Needs to think like a star and not a role player. The talent is there but the jury is still out.
PS spcfan is right. We really didn't look that bad tonight compared with the past several games. Cindy, as usual, is right on target. With Darius and Desi playing the way they are wins will be hard to come by. Call me optimist but both are so much better than they are performing. Hope they shake all this off.
